What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chef position at Buffalo Harmony House?

Duties and responsibilities:

· Serve prepared food in an artistic and creative way

· Prepare food both raw and cooked; using knives, mixers, bowls, various kitchen appliances and tools

· Brew coffees, teas, and create other beverages

· Prepare and serve breakfast for guests

· Assure proper food and beverage storage

· Plan daily and weekly meals/menu

· Assist in catering events

· Compost food waste

· Prepare snacks and hors d’oeuvres for afternoon teas and events

· Maintain and create relationships with local farms and food suppliers to acquire the best, freshest, local, and organic ingredients when applicable

· Send and receive communications with food suppliers, companies, and customers about food quantities, quality, and nutrition

· Keep track of costs and budgets for meals and ingredients

· Care for plants and harvest herbs, flowers, and edibles as needed for food service

· Wash, organize, and store utensils, dishes, and food preparation items

· Clean and maintain kitchen, dining, and others areas of property

· Set tables with linens, china, and flatware etc.

· Clear tables and service patrons in a timely fashion

· Polish silver, plated items, copper, brass, glass and others food service items

· Rearrange furniture according to customer /party needs

· Follow directions of immediate supervisors and customer requests

· Read, write, and communicate in English with correct grammar

Skills, useful knowledge, and personality traits:

o Able to socialize with strangers freely

o Read, speak, and communicate properly in the English language

o Must be able to move aptly up and down stairs

o Must be able to carry 50 pounds up and down stairs

o Knowledge of nutrition, calories, and health benefits of food

o Baking skills

o Cooking skills

o Artistic, fun, and creative

o Bartending/mixology skills a plus

o Barista skills a plus

o Knowledge of latest food and health trends and plus

o Nutrition knowledge and calorie counting ability very important

o Prompt and flexible

o Hard working

o Knowledgeable of local attractions, activities, and events

o Willing to adhere to dress/uniform/appearance policy

o Acting ability a plus

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $13.00 - $25.00 per hour
