Training Video Editor / Videographer

BuildWitt
Nashville, TN Full Time
POSTED ON 6/2/2024
BuildWitt exists to better the Dirt World (those who build and maintain society's essential infrastructure) by helping companies attract, train, and retain great people.

The Position

BuildWitt has an immediate opening for an experienced video editor with camera skills, who can help our team create compelling construction training content. We’re looking for someone with a passion for learning and self improvement who has a solid foundation in video editing and is comfortable operating a camera and working with a team.

In this role you'll focus on post production. Your main role will be editing scripted and unscripted training content under the supervision of the senior editor and creative director. You'll also help shoot content from time to time at our office studio (downtown Nashville) and in the field. It’s a chance to flex your creative skills, work, adapt, and learn in new environments, travel around the US, and help the next generation of construction professionals.

If you love editing, but also like to get outdoors and shoot from time to time, this is the role for you. If you want your work to help others and contribute to a good cause and better future, this is the role for you. If you like working with a team of goofballs who know how to get sh*t done, this is the role for you. If you hate traveling, collaborating, and working the occasional 12 hour shift, this is NOT the role for you. We work with partners (including John Deere, Ariat, and other industry leaders) in the dirt and construction worlds and sometimes we pull long shifts and travel across the country for weeks in a row.

The reality is this type of work and lifestyle is not for everyone, but it's a dream job for others. If you're interested in pushing yourself, and seeing how the infrastructure of our country is made, while actively contributing to the training of the next generation of workers—submit your resume and reel of recent work as well as answering the questions below to be considered.

A Little About The BuildWitt Training Team

Our team is small but scrappy. We produce a wide range of content (from Intro to Demolition to How to Operate a Large Dozer) intended to help educate and train laborers, operators, crew leaders, and many other roles in the Dirt World. We're always looking to improve our productions and welcome the person in this role to contribute where they can. We like to keep things light and concise and a good sense of humor will go a long way.

How you will help us:

  • Edit approximately 25 and video projects a year
  • Help create shot lists and storyboards for lesson scripts with the director and crew
  • Basic color grading and audio sweetening
  • Create graphics from scratch and adjust templates provided by our motion graphics expert
  • Help manage media and storage
  • Work with the team to develop better strategies and improve processes
  • Set up lights and cameras and various other gear for shoots of varying complexity
  • Bring a proactive, positive energy to projects and team meetings
  • While the focus is editing and post, some shooting and travel will be required.

The skills you possess:

  • Strong passion for storytelling and cinematography
  • Proven track record editing and telling stories through video
  • Ability to take and provide feedback with grace
  • Ability to follow directions and shot lists provided by leads
  • Ability to adapt to our workflows
  • Ability to communicate clearly to navigate delays and issues
  • Great attitude
  • Curious/creative mind
  • Eagerness to improve and be a part of a team
  • Strong storytelling skills and understanding of visual media, both theoretically and technically

Is there any travel? How much? Yes. Roughly 60% of the work will be in Nashville and 40% will be on the road. That may change depending on the time of year and production schedule. Home base is Nashville and there will be shoots in Nashville but we also work with partners around the US. We're usually able to give a few weeks notice before travel but the expectation is you'll help with about 50% of road shoots.

Is this position required to be local to Nashville? Yes. Ability to be physically present at the Nashville office (Germantown) at least once a week is a requirement.

Who does this person report to? This person reports to the Creative Director of Training.

What’s in it for you:

  • Dirty boots — see cool massive earth-work, demolition, mining, and construction projects
  • Work for a company that cares for, trusts, and empowers their people
  • Remote work and flexible hours
  • Competitive base salary
  • Multiple healthcare options
