Description
The Program Manager of Data Governance leads, directs strategy, oversees, monitors, and reports on data governance objectives. Directs and coordinates activities and dependencies across the data governance program. Establishes and executes an effective communications strategy for organizational awareness and collaboration. Leads data stewardship efforts and assembles key stakeholders to ensure roles and responsibilities are fulfilled and integrated with organizational processes, decision making, and key insights. Develops and delivers education for data stewards, data custodians, and data citizens. Optimizes data steward engagement and the value of their time. Partners with data governance operational leaders to integrate, align, and maximize organizational effectiveness and product and service delivery. Seeks ongoing feedback, communicates overall program demands and gaps, and continually advances governance objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate progress of the data governance strategy and policies of Burns & McDonnell.
- Identify and assemble key stakeholders committed to unlocking value provided through effective data governance.
- Communicate data governance strategy and policies and provide guidance on their operational implementation.
- Help set the enterprise data strategy; lead data governance; define and oversee policies, standards, and processes; enable governance tools and training; and drive alignment, accountability, and stewardship across the organization.
- Establish and enhance data governance knowledge management capabilities (i.e., glossary tools, training, communications).
- Help lead organizational and operational changes of data governance, taxonomy and master data management while partnering with our technology organization to implement the next generation of data tools with modern cloud-based technology.
- Proactively engage with operational and project teams to integrate data governance and data stewardship workflows and requirements.
- Assist in resolving data quality problems, recommend business process changes, and engage key knowledgeable personnel to enhance data quality.
- Create methods for monitoring, addressing, and reporting any data incidents.
- Work with other information and operational teams in assuring that our data assets are healthy, trusted, accessible and secure, and are used in a meaningful, consistent, and compliant manner.
- Provide exceptional customer service, optimizing use of data governance resources, products, and services.
- Define and strive to achieve Data Governance Objectives and Key Results (OKRs).
- Provide program status reports to the Data Governance & Enablement Committee.
- Help define and execute data governance operational processes (e.g., data quality measurement) in accordance with policies and standards, clearly articulating roles, and responsibilities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or Computer Sciences or a related technical field from accredited program.
- Minimum of 8 years of related experience (10 years’ experience preferred)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills. Must have the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- The ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead, and manage change.
- Demonstrated success in project management.
- Proficiency in the use of basic computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Additional Qualifications:
- Prior experience implementing policies and best practices specific to data governance and stewardship preferred
- Prior experience with project management, specifically managing cross functional teams tasked with data governance activities preferred
- Experience with data governance and data quality management tools preferred
- An understanding of consumer-facing businesses, with emphasis on businesses with a digital component preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication/persuasion skills preferred
- Proven ability to lead a cross-functional team across distinct IT and business units, work with and through others to achieve desired results preferred
- A strong understanding of data needs for analysis and business performance management preferred
