Job Title: Licensed Veterinary Technician/Registered Veterinary Technician Status: Non-Exempt Reports to: Operations Manager Location: Leesburg, VA; Richmond, VA, Springfield, VA; Rockville, MD; Woodstock, GA Last Updated: January 2014 Description: The position of Licensed Veterinary Technician is responsible for administering and providing superior patient care and support for our clients which align with BVNS core values and company mission. Essential Job Functions/Tasks : • Client Interaction o Provide counseling, support and compassion for clients, answer their questions unless it is clear that the attending doctor should do so, and ensure that all admittance and follow up paperwork is properly and accurately completed. o Maintain strict confidentiality regarding clients and patients for whom the practice provides veterinary services. o Understand and comply with policies and procedures in regards to Client Interaction including the following: ? Client Satisfaction and Interaction ? Front Office Tasks ? Medical-Record Keeping Management Tasks • Patient Care o Provide overall care from admittance, to discharge o Understand and comply with policies and procedures in regards to patient care including the following: ? Monitor and care for hospitalized patients ? Room visits • Collect histories • Check vitals, observe patient ? Monitor anesthesia ? Placing catheters ? Emergency Care ? Patient-Admittance Tasks ? Patient-Discharge Tasks ? Exam-Room Tasks ? Patient-Treatment Tasks ? Surgical Tasks ? Nursing-Care Tasks ? Required Qualifications, Education and Experience • 2 year college degree (AA or AS) from AVMA accredited Veterinary Technology Program • Minimum of 2 years of veterinary experience as a licensed veterinary technician • Must be able to maintain your personal veterinary technician certificate, license or registration. • Have the physical strength and ability to stand for an entire shift when needed, and be able to lift pets and objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance. • Must be willing and available to stay late or through breaks, when needed, to assist with emergency or critical-care patients. Position Expectations: • Must have a broad knowledge of animal science, medicine, and husbandry, including a basic knowledge of pharmacology and sufficient mathematical skills to ensure the administration of accurate drug and fluid doses. • Must be knowledgeable of the nervous system and understand how diseases and disorders affect patients to provide high quality of patient care and be a resource for our clients. • Must be able to successfully restrain animals, complete clinical laboratory tests, use multiple radiology techniques, administer and monitor animals under anesthesia, assist in surgery, and be proficient at using advanced diagnostic aids. • Deliver compassionate nursing care. • Build positive, professional relationships with clients and staff members. • Maintain legally defensible medical records in cooperation with the veterinary staff. • Accountable and capable to own all job functions and tasks • Responsible completing all task on time, unless there is prior escalation to management • Must be flexible and react quickly in a fast-paced and dynamic atmosphere • Must understand and follow all internal processes that apply to you.
