30-40% national travel is expected

The Director of Business Development - Public Sector will play a pivotal role in driving business growth within the Education, State, County, and Municipal Government sectors. This strategic position involves targeting new business opportunities, maintaining client relationships and expanding program participation. As the National Sales Director, you will collaborate with internal teams, shape brand strategy, and ensure client satisfaction.

Your impact:

    • Business Development:
      • Identify and pursue new strategic business opportunities through market analysis and competitive intelligence.
      • Understand client needs and tailor solutions to address them effectively.
      • Lead the entire sales cycle, from prospecting to closing deals.
    • Client Relationship Management:
      • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with existing clients.
      • Ensure client satisfaction by addressing concerns promptly and proactively.
      • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver exceptional service.
      • Address client concerns and proactively resolve issues to maintain high levels of retention and loyalty. Create recommendations and facilitate action for resolution with the appropriate brands 
      • Responsible for conducting strategic sourcing actions, contract preparation, and contract execution for assigned categories. Ensures supplier relationships are established, implemented, and managed in the most optimal manner.
      • Design, close and manage new strategic business opportunities through market analysis, monitoring competitive activities, and identifying client needs.
      • Identify and engage new prospects, handle lead generation and conversion.
      • Manage new and existing government accounts to ensure client satisfaction and on-going business relationships.
    • Government Sector Expertise:
      • Focus on State, Local, County, City, Higher Ed, K-12, and Special Districts.
      • Stay informed about industry trends, regulations, and market dynamics.
      • Work on special projects for top clients, such as menu planning, compliance audits, and RFP support
    • Strategic Sourcing and Contract Management:
      • Conduct strategic sourcing activities to optimize supplier relationships.
      • Prepare and execute contracts for assigned categories.
      • Review cooperative purchasing agreements.
    • Brand Strategy and Execution:
      • Contribute to shaping BEP’s brand strategy and go-to-market approach.
      • Collaborate with other Platform brands, marketing and product teams to develop cross-sell and education initiatives. 

 About you:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Marketing, or related field (Master’s preferred) or relevant experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of State/Local Government and Education vertical market sales experience.
  • Sales experience and proven success in the government procurement sector with knowledge of cooperative contracts, key State/Local Government and Education market affiliated associations.
  • Knowledge of the piggy backing bidding process and Group Purchasing Organizations
  • Strong presentation and negotiation skills with proven success in presenting to audiences of up to 100 people.
  • Substantial contract drafting and negotiation experience.
  • Proficiency in: Salesforce, Tableau Reporting, Microsoft Business Tools – i.e., Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Teams.
  • Familiarity with strategic sourcing and contract management.
  • Passion for driving client success and achieving revenue targets.
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to close deals.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • Solid understanding of compliance requirements for government contracts
  • Knowledge of pricing strategies and techniques
  • Experience in building and nurturing industry relationships
