The Material Planner will be a significant contributor to the overall improvement in supply chain efficiency and effectiveness for the company. In this role, you will be providing transactional and analytical support to improve inventory levels, reduce material costs and lead times. You will partner with internal stakeholders to build and execute key activities supporting the Supply Chain Strategy. This includes but is not limited to partnering with purchasing and production.
Requirements
This position has the primary responsibility for ensuring material availability to support production. This includes placing PO’s with established suppliers, updating those POs, and working to ensure that the customer’s required date for product is being met through planning and issuing jobs.
- Determining the required material need based on forecast through ERP and placing/updating purchase orders.
- Work with provided forecast from sales and appropriately manage supply, safety stock, and lead times, while achieving inventory goals.
- Maintain awareness of discontinued or new items and plan effective run out plan for ordering based on transition timing and inventory levels.
- Coordinate orders based on available plant capacity and production schedule.
- Bring appropriate teams together to highlight risks to production runs from a supply standpoint with recommendations.
- Follow up on all orders to ensure confirmations are received, date aligns, and pricing matches. • Manage orders, ensure receipt of goods, and resolve discrepancies that may arise
- Manage supply levels to keep adequate inventory in stock while not creating overstock or obsolete inventory.
- Optimize efficient ordering placement, balancing inventory levels, production needs, and MOQs with suppliers.
- Assist the team to coordinate the development of new products which may require BOM management.
- Evaluate cost vs lead times prior to placing purchase orders for critical shortages.
- Identify the need to expedite or defer orders, as required, based on orders/schedule/inventory changes.
- Identify risk, mitigate, and escalate to get support, as needed.
- Partner with Procurement to identify any ad hoc vendor communications outside of their contracted requirements.
- Ensure inbound materials meet specifications and our quality standards as determined from company protocol.
- Coordinate with Production/QA to create vendor return POs to supplier.
- Work with inventory management to ensure accuracy of inventory on hand against future purchase plans.
- Managing inventory issues, schedule changes, and cancellations.
- Provide support for Supply Chain functions including Shipping, Receiving, and other duties, as assigned.
- Coordinates delivery schedules, and inventory transfers with receiving.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- ERP software experience, preferred NetSuite
- Effective oral and written communication skills including the correct usage of business English, grammar and punctuation.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision and capable of self-checking completeness and accuracy of work produced.
- Must have a great deal of flexibility and ability to handle multiple tasks with varying complexity.
- 5 years in manufacturing or planning environment.
- Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent manufacturing experience.
