What You Will Do
In this role, you will provide legal advice as needed for day to day business operations and litigation, engage and act as a liaison to outside counsel as required. You'll do this by:
- Coordinating with outside counsel to assist company in the preparation and defense of claims, arbitrations, mediations, litigation, investigations and other matters.
- Coordinating and managing document discovery and responses to other document requests in legal matters; reviewing documents, agreements, and contracts and prepare them to be produced, in accordance with applicable rules and regulations.
- Coordinating the work of the Legal Department, including the conducting of project file and legal research, the distributing of reports on legal costs and other matters, and supervising the input of legal, legal cost, and other information into company, departmental and government databases.
- Performing legal research and offer advice on current laws and regulations affecting the company business to guide informed decisions and reduce risk.
- Reviewing and drafting legal agreements and documents as needed.
- Working Conditions – Office setting with work generally performed in a controlled indoor environment; sometime required to work in a warehouse or on jobsites with little or no climate control in hot or cold environments; some lifting may be required (45 lbs); walking, standing, sitting, keyboarding, writing and reading; some travel may be required, full time
- Reporting Structure – This position reports the Vice President, Business Administration & General Counsel
What We Expect
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities – Knowledge of basic computer skills and ability to use Microsoft software - Excel, Microsoft Word and the Access Data Base. Ability to read, write, and comprehend the English language. Ability to perform legal research and have the skills of a licensed lawyer.
Education / Experience - Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and two years of experience in the practice of law required. Undergraduate courses with a focus on construction or engineering preferred. Legal courses in construction, contract and labor law, also preferred.
Certifications/Licenses - Current Alabama Bar Law license required.
