Overview
Cajun's Baton Rouge Civil Business Unit is hiring a Manager of Estimating. This is a leadership position in the Business Unit, reporting directly to the Business Unit Leader. The Manager of Estimating leads the estimating process and proposal generation for the Business Unit. This includes working with a staff of Estimators to plan, schedule, and generate expected costs of construction; to submit proposals for prospective work packages in the petrochemical industry. The Manager of Estimating also coordinates with Business Unit Management, Project Management, Business Development, Construction Management, and other Managers of Estimating to appropriately allocate estimating capacity to ongoing and future opportunities.
Responsibilities

- Estimating methodology, capability and efficiency
- Ensure capable systems are in place for efficient estimating and proper job costing.
- Work with Project Managers to ensure that estimates are adequately provisioned with sufficient staff.
- Work with the Construction Manager to ensure that estimators are correctly planning execution for the prospective projects.
- Work closely with estimate team leaders to make sure all necessary inputs from key personnel are received, in addition to input from key subcontractors and suppliers.
- Integration of Estimating Applications and Data Management Technology
- Guide designated estimate team through acquisitions, maintenance, and application of appropriate estimating platforms to be used by estimators to produce accurate and timely estimates.
- Work with other Business Unit Estimating Managers to ensure that overall Cajun trending is maintained in Business Unit 02’s estimating process.
- Work with Project Controls Manager to ensure that seamless transition process is created between estimate and project controls during execution phase.
- Team Member Education and Knowledge of Construction Methods
- Work with the Business Unit Leader to ensure that Estimating staff is receiving adequate training in all subject matter important for personal career growth and successful proposal generation.
- Work with the Constructability Manager and Construction Manager to implement estimating strategies that are in line with actual execution techniques.
- Construction Technique Innovation
- Guide designated estimate team toward successful investigation of latest construction methods and products to increase competitiveness.
- Work with Constructability Manager and Construction Manager to capture the latest trends and improvements which improve competitiveness.
- Business Development
- Create and manage program and expectations for estimators to use as a framework for selling Cajun to prospective clients and assist Business Development to discover opportunities for Cajun.
- Partner with Business Development to help maximize successful opportunities and develop strong relationships with current and future clients.
- Organize and manage a centralized cost estimating database and a formal process to support cost estimating to ensure proper data is utilized
- Analyze completed projects to compare estimated costs to actual costs and determine the reason for any discrepancies
- Provide improvement recommendations to cost estimating procedures to reduce future discrepancies between estimated and actual costs
- Identify cost trends to assist management in cost reduction and process improvement efforts
- Verify completeness of estimates
- Promote interaction with estimating team by brainstorming constructability of project, maximizing creativity, analyzing production rates, and maximizing indirect costs to reduce duration
- Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or effect cost reductions
- Serve as a facilitator between other Cajun companies and departments
- Assist others as needed
Qualifications
Physical
- Industrial Estimating Experience- at least 5 years
- Preferred to have at least 5 years of Industrial Project Management Experience
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs., but may occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
- Hearing and comprehension is necessary for giving and receiving directions
- Will need to perform sedentary to heavy work
- Will operate office equipment of all types
- Climb and maintain balance on steel/wood framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds
- Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis
- Position may require prolonged bending/twisting, walking, reaching overhead, squatting, sitting or standing and lifting
- Must be able to manipulate and traverse uneven terrain, ladders, and multi-floor buildings with no elevator
- Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces, muddy conditions, loose rock, loose/soft sand, etc.
- Will be exposed to adverse weather conditions (Heat, Cold, Rain, Etc.)
- Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
- Ability to drive cars/trucks as needed
Mental
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively with management/ supervision
- Talking and reading & writing comprehension is necessary for giving and receiving directions to perform work and/or safety policy
- Ability to use math/complete calculations
- Work at various tempos, and concentrate amid distractions
