Department Summary

The Office of Institutional Research and Analytics collaborates with the campus community in support of strategic planning, enrollment planning, assessment, and continuous improvement through consultative program design and timely dissemination of reliable information. Our goals are to 1) provide expertise and support for program design, assessment, and continuous improvement, 2) develop, provide, and maintain timely and accurate institutional data to internal and external audiences, and 3) conduct project-based research and analyses.

Job Summary

The Director of Institutional Research & Analytics has administrative management responsibilities of the Office of Institutional Research & Analytics including leadership, direction, insight, and performance management of staff in support of data governance, strategic planning, accreditation, decision-making processes, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities include, but is not limited to:
  • Directs the office around the use of data for institutional intelligence via data visualization and dashboards; Provides analytic support to facilitate strategic planning, assessment, enrollment planning, policy decisions, resource allocations and other processes requiring strategic analysis; Develops and maintains university systems for databases and dashboards, and reporting procedures to show institutional profile; Supervises the generation of data and dissemination of information and materials such as the Fact Book, Quickfacts, dashboards, videos, website, and other digital storytelling media as well as the generation of data and reporting to the CSU system office and external agencies such as WSCUC, NCAA, and college publishers.
  • Anticipates the need for data and reports, and manages requests made by internal and external constituents; Manages workload and assigns projects and research; Provides periodic status reports and updates of institutional research and projects to leadership; Supervises and trains staff in data collection, analysis, survey development, report writing, presentations, and dashboard development; Supports the staff in their professional development and creates opportunities for staff to grow professionally; Conducts performance evaluations for staff members.
  • Serves in appropriate institutional, divisional, university or college committees, task forces, and councils; Participates in systemwide CSU meetings and projects related to institutional research; Is the official point of contact for institutional research-related queries from internal and external constituents as well as CSU queries.
  • Supports the development and implementation of policies, standards, and procedures pertaining to campus data governance and stewardship; Collaborates with data authorities and custodians in maintaining data integrity, privacy, information security, documentation, and at the same time, ensuring data democracy; Disseminates policies, standards, and procedures on ethical use of data.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Employment Status: Full-time, Exempt, At-will, included in the Management Personnel Plan (MPP).

Work Schedule
  • Generally, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Some weekends and evenings may be required.

Key Qualifications
  • Ability to demonstrated experience with quantitative research methods and statistics, and extensive knowledge in analyzing both quantitative and qualitative data using SPSS, SQL, MySQL or similar tools.
  • Working knowledge and experience in Tableau.
  • Working knowledge of PeopleSoft or related data base.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; effective management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, direct the work of the department staff and inspire them, set and meet deadlines, and respond to queries from campus leadership and external constituents.
  • Works with minimal direction. Assignments are received in task and objective oriented terms. Independently determines and develops approach to solutions. Work is reviewed upon completion for soundness of judgment, effectiveness in achieving desired results, and/or organizational goals. May determine organizational objectives, interpret university policy, and delegate assignments to subordinate supervisors and managers.
  • Responsible for the overall administration of assigned program or department. May manage the operation through subordinate supervisors to achieve objectives. Ensures that budget and performance objectives are established and attained.
  • Serves as prime internal contact in assigned area. Conducts briefings and technical meetings for top management and external representatives.
  • Relevant experience includes (1) data collection, analysis, and interpretation; (2) strategic planning, (3) project management and assessment; (4) accreditation processes and requirements; and (5) assessment of student learning.




Education and Experience
  • A master's degree in an appropriate academic discipline along with the equivalent to five years of relevant experience in higher education, in particular working in and taking a leadership role in a multi-staff office.




Preferred Qualifications
  • A Ph.D. or EdD in the Social Sciences or related field is preferred.



Salary

Anticipated Hiring Range: $109,000-$112,000 per year

Classification Range: $54,996 - $165,000 per year
