About the Position:
Student Business Services is part of the Division of Administration & Finance. We operate as our university's cashiers and collect, allocate, and safeguard funds between students, banks, other departments, and various external sources. Account specialists are available to offer private consultation and personalized meetings to find payment solutions. Our customer service centers are ready to answer inquiries about student financial accounts and other related issues. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Cashier (Accounting Technician III). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
Responsible for writing internal procedures for Cashier's Office. Evaluates incoming checks and correspond with departments on the origin of such checks. Processes petty cash reconciliation and reorder cash—train staff on cashiering office and PeopleSoft functions. Serves as backup lead when the primary lead is away. Processes Tax Documents for Controller's Office. Creates Cashiers Statistics logs, dishonored check log, hand receipt inventory log, and monitor incoming mail. Processes fee receipts. Researches old data on microfiche and legacy computer systems. Creates and monitor scholarship process to interface with Student Accounts. Generates daily reports to verify deposit balance with actual cash collected. Verifies the accuracy of deposits. Approves refund file and checks greater than tuition amount. Assists in tracking 529 retirement plans and ensuring payments are posted to avoid disenrollment. Submit check requests for credit card merchant fees. Discusses complex problems with students, faculty, and staff. Test software upgrades. Serves as the primary trainer for office staff and tests PeopleSoft and CashNet for all system upgrades. Supports department efforts in promoting an inclusive environment of teamwork and will contribute towards ensuring diversity, equity, and inclusion are incorporated in department operations, programs, and services. Demonstrates initiative to anticipate potential problems and proactively recommends effective solutions to management. Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications
Four years of progressively responsible financial record-keeping experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities. Comprehensive knowledge of financial record-keeping, mathematical and general office methods, procedures, and practices; and basic knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Ability to interpret and apply a wide variety of written rules and regulations. Ability to maintain accounting records for funds, programs, or activities involving multiple transactions. Ability to Compile, verify, and reconcile financial data. Ability to use current computer word processing and spreadsheet software programs, web browsers, query tools, integrated financial systems and/or other types of records management systems, such as student accounting, cashiering and student financial aid. Ability to Investigate and resolve errors and discrepancies. Ability to read and interpret computer-generated reports.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous CSU Experience in PeopleSoft Student Financials functionality and CashNet processing in a university environment.
