WIC Breastfeeding Peer Helper/Clerk
Full-Time (40 hours per week)

This is a combined position, performing Breastfeeding Peer Helper duties and Clerk duties.
Peer Helper Job Duties:
- Provide pregnant and postpartum WIC participants with breastfeeding support.
- Have ongoing contact with the pregnant or breastfeeding participants at the clinics, on the telephone, or by mail.
- Provide appropriate breastfeeding referrals.
- Assist with group classes and attend breastfeeding support meetings.
- Serve as a breastfeeding resource person to WIC staff and participants.
- Assist with community outreach and bulletin boards
Clerk Duties:
- Process client data for certification and food issuance.
- Perform WIC Communication Systems functions.
- Provide general office support.
Minimum Qualifications:
- HS Diploma or passage of a high school equivalency exam.
- Personal experience breastfeeding one or more infants either exclusively or substantially for at least six months (does not have to be currently breastfeeding).
- Has been a current or past WIC participant OR is eligible for WIC services.
- Must complete a minimum of 20 hours of state approved training and obtain six hours of continuing education credit per year in the field of lactation and postpartum issues. (May be obtained post-hire)
- Current valid driver’s license
Hiring salary: $13.00 an hour. The health department offers an excellent fringe benefit package and is an equal opportunity employer.
