What are the responsibilities and job description for the Counselor position at Cambridge-Isanti High School?
Qualifications/Experience:
Master's degree with coursework in counseling, psychology, sociology, or related field and minimal experience working with school counseling, or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Skills Needed:
Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of school counseling; general knowledge of community agencies available to serve and assist students; general knowledge of casework methods and procedures; ability to conduct interviews and guidance sessions effectively and to analyze attitudes and problems objectively; ability to counsel students and parents on sensitive problems and to communicate ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, staff and administration.

Specific Tasks:
Provide emotional support for students; build relationships with students; respond to student requests. Support student academic needs. Support student attendance growth. Support master scheduling needs. Counsel students referred for disciplinary issues. Assist teachers with student behavior and/or academic issues as needed. Provide short-term academic assistance. Supervise students during lunch periods. Coordinate/Support Student Assistance Team activities that locate assistance for students with more significant difficulties. Performs/supports testing.
