Job Summary
The Brunswick District Attorney"s Office is currently accepting resumes/applications for a Legal Assistant in the Brunswick Judicial Circuit in the Camden County District Attorney"s Office. The principal function of an employee in this class is to perform a variety of standard, technical clerical and administrative legal support duties for Assistant District Attorneys (ADAs). The work is performed under the immediate supervision of an assigned ADA, but some leeway may be granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. Employee works under closer supervision when performing more advanced tasks. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with assigned ADA, other attorneys, Victim Advocates and the general public. The principal duties of this class are performed in a general office environment and on occasion in the court environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provides administrative support and works directly with Assistant District Attorney"s and Investigators;
~ Receives legal documents and requests such as; subpoenas, warrants, motions, discovery to review and record/incorporate with related legal documents and/or compile with related case/file information;
~ Researches information to complete legal documents and prepare legal descriptions, agreements, legal drafts, letters, reports, summaries and correspondence;
~ Finalizes information/documents upon approval and maintain copies for department file and submits to appropriate parties;
~ Creates and maintains legal files; enters information into department database; updates database; attends court calendars;
~ Performs a variety of administrative duties; answers phone, greets clients and visitors, provides assistance. Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent.
At least two (2) years of experience performing a variety of legal administrative assistance or legal secretarial duties; or any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Written and oral communication skills, as well as computer and telephone skills, interacting with various agency representatives, law enforcement representatives and victims of crime.
Working knowledge of the criminal justice system and the impact of crime on victims. Word-processing, using databases, spreadsheets, the Internet & email. Additional Information
All candidates are subject to a background check. Applicants selected for hire will be subject to fingerprinting, a criminal history background check, a motor vehicle driver"s history check and pre-employment drug screening; employment is contingent upon the completion and satisfactory results of each investigation.
