Camp Zeke is a Jewish overnight camp in Lakewood, PA that celebrates healthy, active living. In addition to traditional summer camp activities, we offer a full culinary art and baking program for campers, along with various fitness electives such as yoga, strength training, and krav maga.
While Camp Zeke is a Jewish camp, our staff come from all different backgrounds.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and mission-aligned Head Chef to work with our Executive Chef and help lead our kitchen team and to create, healthy, amazing Kosher food from June 14th to August 22nd with longer contracts possible. If you are passionate about cooking healthy, delicious food and have previous experience in a lead role in the kitchen, then we want to hear from you. Our growing and active camp is in need of a hard-working, self-motivated Chef to join our team.
The Head Chef will help to manage the kitchen team under the direction of the kitchen manager, help with food purchasing and to develop menus and create delectable recipes. The ideal candidate for this position is creative, enthusiastic and passionate about food and has experience with Kosher vegetarian cuisine. Those with previous industry experience and knowledge of Kosher cuisine are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities of Head Chef at camp in PA:
- The Head Chef, who reports to the kitchen manager, is responsible for cooking all of camp’s meals in cooperation with the Executive Chef and serving as the kitchen manager’s eyes and ears when the manager is in the office and not on the kitchen floor.
- Helps to train, cook with, and directly supervise the kitchen staff.
- The Head Chef is responsible for creating daily production lists and keeping track of inventory and proper stock rotation.
- Ensure that leftovers are properly wrapped and stored and repurposed if possible to eliminate waste and over production.
- Ensure that the kitchen team maintains an impeccable level of cleanliness in the kitchen, dining room, and bathrooms outside the dining room.
- Work with the kitchen team to prepare food that is presented beautifully at every meal.
- Be aware of proper stock management and rotation.
- Assist the kitchen manager with scheduling of staff and food purchasing as needed.
- Work with the director of culinary arts so that campers can be involved in food preparation where appropriate.
- During meals at camp, the Head Chef engages with the campers, explains the meals, and has his or her fingers on the pulse of campers’ feelings about the food.
- Ensures that the kitchen team makes appropriate foods for all campers with allergies, and those foods are fully segregated from the rest of the camp’s meals to prevent cross-contamination.
Qualifications of Head Chef at camp in PA:
- Degree from Recognized Culinary School
- 5 Years’ Experience in an Executive Kitchen Position
- Demonstrated Knowledge of Kosher Cooking and Healthy Cuisine
- Self-Starting Personality with an Even Disposition.
- Must Possess Culinary Creativity and Have Proven Leadership Skills, A Strong Work Ethic, And A Motivating, Positive Attitude. Must be a Hands-On Chef Who Will Work Alongside our Team.
- Strong Knowledge of Local, State and Federal Food Sanitation Regulations – Current Servsafe Certification.
- Comfortable Providing Direction and Supervision to Kitchen Staff.
