We provide land acquisition, geospatial mapping, data management, web-based GIS, community relations, land feasibility studies, and permitting services. Canacre works on large-scale wind and solar power projects, high-voltage transmission lines, pipeline projects, municipal roads projects, and groupings of cellular towers and rooftop antennas.
The Manager, GIS Services leads the GIS team and focuses on GIS analysis, manages incoming and outgoing data, creates professional looking map products and reports for distribution to internal and external parties.
In addition, your role will be to:
- Oversee and manage GIS Specialists and Team Leads on project related initiatives.
- Manage Direct Reports and establish annual goals.
- Build, lead and empower a diverse and capable team.

- Coordinate use of GIS Data within the GIS team.
- Trains users in GIS software, spatial analysis and related technologies.
- Develop high quality custom maps and reports.
- Plan, design and oversee geographic information system (GIS) projects.
- Design, implement and maintain databases and applications to support a variety of projects.
- Create GIS training exercises and reference documents.
- Design data standards, report and mapping templates.
- Convert data and conduct GIS analysis.
- Address and resolve issues relating to project and/or data.
- Manage internal and external project data.
- Design, oversee and conduct Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures on mapping and data products.
- Conduct evaluations of cartographic and GIS principles.
- Identify mapping requirements.
- Approve reports and provide client related updates to management.
- Create, edit and manage data for a variety of projects.
- Perform data analysis and spatial queries.
- Set up internal GIS system including field data collection capabilities and in-house data management systems.
- Provide drawings, data and geographic information for various projects and reports.
- Create, analyse and maintain vector, raster and tabular data and databases.
- Liaise with clients providing solutions, reports and updates.
- Liaise with Canacre teams on related projects.
- Liaise with Field Team and Project Managers to deliver quality products.
Qualifications:
- Post secondary degree in GIS, Cartography, Geography, Civil Engineering, or related field of study, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a management position.
- Minimum 5 years professional experience in GIS.
- Working experience in a management or supervisory position.
- Working experience with running project quality control.
- Educational or Professional experience with ESRI ArcGIS and its extensions.
- Working knowledge of digitizing, editing, performing queries and creating maps in ArcGIS, Microsoft Access DB & Reporting Tools, Microsoft Excel AutoCAD and relational databases.
- SQL/VBA language skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- A keen attention to detail.
- An understanding of various GIS data formats, map projections and how to integrate AutoCAD and GIS data.
