We are technical experts in land, energy, and transportation development delivering accurate, innovative, and agile solutions to our partners. We provide land acquisition, geospatial mapping, data management, web-based GIS, community relations, land feasibility studies, and permitting services. Canacre’s clients include developers, large scale service providers, and government entities that are involved in the planning and development of energy projects, rights of way, resources, and infrastructure across Canada and the United States. Canacre works on large-scale wind and solar power projects, high-voltage transmission lines, pipeline projects, municipal roads projects, and groupings of cellular towers and rooftop antennas.
The Director, GIS Services provides direction and guidance to the GIS department and may be responsible for employees in multiple locations.
In addition, your role will be to:
- Manage Direct Reports and establish annual goals.
- Build, lead and empower a diverse and capable GIS team.
- Cultivate a work environment committed to the health, safety and wellness of employees.
- Establish a highly efficient and positive culture where employees are empowered and accountable for areas of responsibility.
- Provide departmental input on budgets, financial and multi-year strategic plan that will provide stable sources of revenue to support the strategic plan.
- Implement interdepartmental policies and procedures for the GIS department and oversee adherence to these policies.
- Review and evaluate the profitability and team plans for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the GIS department.
- Prepare regular reports for senior management.
- Develop and implement standards and procedures for the work performed in the GIS department.
- Assist to determine departmental KPIs.
- Review organizational structure and staffing plans.
- Coordinate team meetings to implement new initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to provide additional services.
- Participate in proposal activities.
- Oversee teams so that projects are delivered on-time and on-budget with quality service that meet or exceed customer satisfaction.
- Support team members in client interactions.
- Represent department with key client activities including presentations.
- Deal directly with clients providing solutions, reports and updates.
- Coordinate changes to services or processes by leveraging internal expertise to develop effective solutions.
- Incorporate “lessons learned” into the delivery of Canacre’s services.
- Implement processes, procedures and templates.
- Determine appropriate staffing and resource allocation for projects.
- Work with senior management to build appropriate project teams.
- Plan, administer and control budgets.
- Actively work on projects, as required.
Qualifications:
- Post secondary degree in GIS, Cartography, Geography, Civil Engineering, or related field of study, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years professional experience in GIS.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a management position.
- Working experience with running project quality control.
- Working experience in a management or supervisory position.
- Educational or Professional experience with ESRI ArcGIS and its extensions.
- Working knowledge of digitizing, editing, performing queries and creating maps in ArcGIS, Microsoft Access DB & Reporting Tools, Microsoft Excel AutoCAD and relational databases.
- SQL/VBA language skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- A keen attention to detail.
- An understanding of various GIS data formats, map projections and how to integrate AutoCAD and GIS data.
