What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kennel Manager position at Canine CellMates?
Responsible for supervising the kennel; training kennel personnel; ensuring and maintaining proper standards of care established by Canine CellMates for the facility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Animal Care Duties
- Oversee the general care of all dogs housed at the facility and perform daily walkthroughs of the building and kennels.
- Oversee and enforce animal health and sanitation protocols.
- Oversee and enforce Canine CellMates policies and procedures regarding the kennel and handling of the dogs.
- Instruct kennel personnel in proper and humane handling techniques of dogs.
- Train new kennel techs on job responsibilities and expectations
- Oversee and assist volunteers that come to walk dogs and help in the facility
- Maintain accurate drug records and logs.
- Oversee feeding and watering of animals.
- Works shifts as a kennel tech
- Other tasks as assigned.
Supervisory Duties
- Oversee, assign and review the daily work activities of the kennel staff.
- Scheduling of kennel staff so that all shifts are covered
- Inventory and maintain supplies, materials and medications needed in the kennel.
- Report supplies needs to Director of Operations
- Monitor and evaluate job performance of kennel staff and handle disciplinary actions.
- Manage staff fairly, effectively and efficiently and serve as a model for staff.
Desired Skills:
- Advanced dog handling skills.
- Supervisory skills.
- Effective communication, both written and oral.
- Reporting skills – prepare and maintain routine work records and reports.
Qualifications/Educational Background:
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in shelter, kennel, or dog daycare facility is required.
- Ability to properly maintain drug logs.
- Advanced knowledge of canine behavior, habits, and husbandry.
- Must be available to work on evenings, weekends and holidays
