Environmental Advisor - Air – Overview
Reporting to the VP HSE and Sustainability, the Environmental Advisor - Air position supports the organization to successfully complete environmental programs and assure regulatory conformance. The focus of this role is leading internal efforts to address Federal and Provincial emissions related requirements and programs. Regular contributions of this role include acting as liaison and subject matter expert to Operations on matters involving environmental regulations and assurance.
The preferred candidate will be independent, pragmatic and accountable. The role has responsibility to schedule work to deadlines and must be adaptable to changing priorities and regulations. The role will liaise with internal and external stakeholders to gather relevant data and information required to meet expectations. The candidates must be adept at applying critical thinking to evaluate risks and develop recommendations for the business needs.
LOCATION: Calgary
Environmental Advisor – Air – The Role
- Accountable for coordinating annual regulatory reporting programs (e.g. ECCC / NPRI, TIER, BC GHG, AEIR, and AER Approvals)
- Lead implementation of new air / emission regulatory requirements including methane regulations and MSAPR
- Lead and track progress of annual emission survey programs (DEOS & FEMP)
- Lead implementation on any new methane reduction incentive programs offered by the Federal or Provincial Agencies
- Support implementation of Fuel Flare Vent (FFV) field data capture system and continuation of methane emitting equipment inventory
- Assist with evaluation and execution of carbon offset projects
- Complete monthly EPEA IAM reporting
- Work independently and within multi-discipline teams
- Engage with technical staff, contractors and field personnel to complete environmental project tasks and assurance activities
- Able to contribute to budget development and report on expenditures
- Collect, review, and organize data required to complete regulatory submissions / technical reports. Critical evaluation of any consultant conclusions and recommendations.
- Coordinate the planning and execution of field work to support deliverables of this role
- Contribute to the continual improvement of Standard Operating Practice’s, and processes which enhance environmental awareness initiatives and regulatory compliance throughout the company
Environmental Advisor – The Person
- Degree or post-secondary education in environmental engineering, science or related field
- Knowledge of industrial processes and emissions sources applicable to upstream oil and gas industry
- Basic understanding of emissions quantification methodologies and climate change science.
- Minimum 5 years relevant work experience in a similar role
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to build long-term, successful professional relationships with colleagues.
- Proficient with Microsoft office suite required; knowledge of Provincial regulatory databases and public data (DDS, ONESTOP, ETS, SWIM, KERMIT,Petrinex) would be an asset
- Ability to multi-task and coordinate multiple field programs
- Strong communication skills, written and oral, and ability to contribute positively within a team environment
- Previous environmental field work experience within conventional oil and gas assets involving environmental inspection, audit and management system understanding is an asset
- Knowledge and experience with current environmental regulation is required
- Occasional requirement to travel for work to field sites
- Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver's License (unrestricted)
