What are the responsibilities and job description for the Program Manager II position at Canyon Aeroconnect?

Role purpose (position scope):

The successful candidate will be responsible to monitor, execute, and instill programmatic controls on a broad range of small to medium sized programs being run in parallel with each other.

Particular program emphasis is relative to the development of commercial avionics equipment including: software defined radios, audio equipment, communication/navigation and similar hardware. The Program Manager will be a key interface into the Business Unit Team and a technical interface for our Customers.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish, execute and manage program plans, tasks, schedules, cost analysis and priorities.
  • SOW/WBS generation.
  • Manage program and program metrics such as Earned Value.
  • Guide product development through the Life Cycle Management (LCM) and stage gate processes.
  • Establish/Participate in Integrated Product Development Teams (IPDT).
  • Coordinate/Participate in Engineering activities (including design, development, documentation, manufacture, test and certification) required to deliver first production of software, mechanical, electronic, electromechanical subsystems and systems to Customer schedule, cost and technical requirements.
  • Coordinate/Participate in problem/issue identification, tracking and resolution from concept to customer delivery.
  • Program reporting to upper management.
  • Provide interface to organizations outside of Engineering.
  • Participate in strategic process improvement initiatives and technological strategies.
  • Comply and uphold Canyon AeroConnect SHE policies and standards.
  • Comply with the Canyon AeroConnect Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Manager.

  • Experience in commercial avionics systems development, bid management, and customer support.
  • Experience with Contracts, Terms and Conditions, etc.
  • Experience with DO-178 and DO-254 development and DO-160 Qualification Testing.
  • Experience with customer and/or FAA audits.

Level II – Intermediate (Experienced)

  • KNOWLEDGE – Use and application of PMP principles, theories, concepts and techniques. Demonstrated knowledge of avionics industry practices and standards.
  • JOB COMPLEXITY – Works on problems of moderate scope and complexity, where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
  • DISCRETION/LATITTUDE - Works under general supervision. Follows established procedures. Work is reviewed for soundness of judgment, and overall adequacy and accuracy.
  • MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE - Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering / Scientific discipline (or the equivalent combination of education and experience) and certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP). Also requires 5 years of program management experience as a PE or PM.

Physical Demands:

  • Tasks involve light physical effort in sedentary to light work; may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects or materials (5 – 10 lbs.).
  • Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.

  • While performing the aforementioned job duties, the employee mainly works in an office setting that is relatively quiet and has temperature control systems.
