JOB SUMMARY:
Using initiative and independent judgment plans and implements professional nursing care for patients in accordance with hospital policies. Assumes charge nurse responsibilities as assigned.
JOB RELATIONSHIPS:
Responsible to: Patient Care Manager,
Positions Directly Supervised: US, MHS, other RNs and LPNs
MAJOR JOB FUNCTIONS:
The following is a summary of the major essential functions of the job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below, and specific functions may change from time to time.
1. Assesses the patient and identifies nursing diagnosis.
2. Plans, organizes, implements, and evaluates patient care.
3. Provides a safe environment.
4. Maintains required certification and credentialing.
5. Functions as charge nurse as assigned.
6. Maintains an accurate and relevant record of patient care.
7. Safely administers medication as ordered by a physician.
8. Recognizes life-threatening situations and responds appropriately.
9. Establishes cooperative interpersonal relationships with other hospital staff and medical staff.
10. Monitors the quality of care based on pre-established outcome-oriented indicators.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The following qualifications or equivalent, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential function of this job.
EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING: Current North Carolina licensure for RN.
WORK EXPERIENCE: One-year psychiatric nursing experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: CPR certified. Certified in Crisis Prevention Intervention Techniques. Demonstrates positive and interpersonal skills. Verbal and written skills required. Demonstrates effective organizational and leadership skills. Demonstrates ability to work with children age 4-12 with psychiatric and mental health issues, as well as address physiological needs.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Speech and auditory acuity for communication of patient needs. Visual acuity for observation of patients. Much standing, walking, bending, and lifting. Position may involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material.
