Responsibilities
- Supervises the technical staff and the analytical activities within a designated laboratory section to generate reliable test results. Plans, assigns, reviews, and evaluates the work of assigned staff to achieve quality testing results, to operate in a fiscally responsible manner, to achieve operational efficiency and to adhere to established policies, practices and procedures.
- Resolves technical, operational, system and other related issues. Recommends changes in procedures and techniques
- Maintains records, procedure manuals, quality assurance records and quality control records. Maintains documentation required by regulatory agencies.
- Collaborates with other laboratory supervisory staff members and laboratory administration establishing and implementing goals and objectives.
- Performs laboratory and special procedures and maintains proficiency in all procedures within designated section. Evaluates and ensures proper safety precautions and infection control measures are being implemented to ensure the safety of patients, staff and others.
- Monitors performance of equipment and takes measures to ensure proper and safe operation of equipment. Monitors performance of preventive maintenance schedule to ensure timely performance. Evaluates operations, quality assurance, quality control, adequate inventory of supplies and individual performance.
- Maintains inventory of operating supplies.
- Interviews, hires, and trains employees. Plans, assigns, and directs work.
- Participates in accreditation surveys by CAP, Joint Commission, and other accrediting agencies, as well as licensure inspections, and prepares laboratory section to assure compliance with standards.
- Assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Laboratory's section operating budgets.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in science related field. Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory sciences preferred. ASCP or equivalent certification. For Blood Bank, MT (ASCP) SBB desired.
- Five years clinical laboratory experience. Two years experience in a supervisory role or progressively responsible relevant work experience to ensure thorough familiarity with the day-to-day operation within area of discipline.
- Knowledge of theory, practice, QC, and governmental regulations within area of discipline. Must demonstrate interpersonal skills to gain cooperation with other departments and foster continuous improvements. Must be flexible and available based on staffing requirements, including weekends, and holidays. Excellent organizational and communication skills and ability to address clients and employees in a professional manner.
- Completed a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) program. Advanced computer skills (Microsoft Excel).
- Ability to make decisions and handle multiple priorities in a high volume setting, able to organize and lead projects both within the work group and with cross-functional groups.
- Frequent physical demands include: Sitting , Standing , Walking , Carry objects, Push/Pull , Twisting , Bending , Reaching forward , Reaching overhead , Wrist position deviation , Pinching/fine motor activities Occasional physical demands include: Climbing (e.g., stairs or ladders) , Squat/kneel/crawl , Taste or Smell Continuous physical demands include: Keyboard use/repetitive motion , Talk or Hear Lifting Floor to Waist 50 lbs. Lifting Waist Level and Above 50 lbs.
