JOB OVERVIEW
The Manager, Product Development is responsible for leading a team of developers that will be developing materials and trims, building, and maintaining accurate BOM’s, maintaining costs in accordance with financial objectives, communicating adjustments and corrections to overseas offices/suppliers, overseeing sampling (complete to commercialized product), resolving any issues that may arise, and providing insight and feedback to the Design team.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage a team of Product Developers and Product Development Assistants
- Manage product development of applicable product categories, from proto stage to final production
- Manage style pre-costing and analyze all subsequent prototype costing to ensure yield, material costs, and FOB's are accurate and meet margin objectives
- Manage proto, sample, counter-sample and production approvals to ensure quality standards and timeline deliverables are met
- Oversee product details and specs throughout the product manufacturing process to ensure quality standards are maintained
- Oversee development process according to established company calendar
- Oversee factory communication to execute approved style, fit and construction
- Source materials and trims ensuring quality, factuality and price points are met
- Support the development, implementation and maintenance of department policies and procedures
- Manage, develop, and mentor product development team
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
- Proficient in Microsoft Applications (i.e., Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
- Proficient in PLM system(s)
- Proficient in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
- Proficient in garment fit and pattern alterations
- Ability to coach / lead and collaborate at all organizational levels
- Ability to interpret design intent and offer alternative solutions
- Ability to manage and mentor a team
- Ability to prioritize workflow based on deadlines
- Ability to problem solve and communicate all issues to cross functional departments
- Ability to travel internationally
- Strong organizational skills
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree or technical trade school and / or equivalent
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in women's apparel product development
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a leadership capacity
