The Nurse Manager is responsible for daily operations in a specific clinical unit, including quality assurance, patient experience, staff engagement, and financial stewardship while complying with CARF and Joint Commission standards.
Job Responsibilities:
- Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
- Adheres to policies and procedures specific to patient rights.
- Maintains a clean and safe environment; identifies and reports hazards.
- Maintains BLS certification and assumes responsibility for maintaining required continuing education and unit specific credentials.
- Meets all mandatory in-service requirements.
- Adheres to policies/procedures specific to universal precautions when delivering patient care.
- Adheres to policies regarding attendance, conduct, grooming, and dress code.
- Promotes a positive image of the hospital to outside agencies and the public.
- Participates in performance improvement activities as needed.
- Exhibits excellent service to patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers.
- Shows courtesy, compassion and respect.
- Promotes the mission, vision and values of the organization.
Daily Operations
- Analyze quality and patient care trends at unit level
- Identify gaps and critically think and implement corrective action plans
- Achievement of Quality metrics as well as Patient Experience rating benchmarks for unit.
- Leader rounding and elevate concerns which are unable to be resolved
- Responsible for budgeting and adherence to the budget
- Identify performance improvement opportunities and develop processes, procedures, and policy to support these initiatives
- Ensures implementation and update of policies and procedures.
Managing Staff
- Accountability for ensuring employees are competent, mentored, and professionally grown
- Ensures staffing, scheduling, interview and hiring is completed for unit
- Provides for orientation and successful onboarding of new staff members in collaboration with clinical educators and assistant manager
- Evaluates individual staff member's performance in a timely manner in accord with established criteria, sets realistic goals and provides guidance for professional development.
- Provides guidance in the Shared Governance Council as appropriate.
- Proactively rounds on all employees and provides coaching, feedback, etc. as applicable.
Environment of Care
- Maintains safe unit environment. Ensures staff compliance with safety, fire and infection control policies and procedures.
Job Qualifications:
- BSN and CRRN nursing preferred, with at least two years of clinical experience in nursing.
- Licensed as a registered nurse in the State of Florida.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
