Recreation Director
Water's Edge Rehabilitation and Nursing Center at Port Jefferson is seeking a talented Recreation Director to join our team.
Recreation Director Position Summary:
The Recreation Director is responsible for the development, implementation, and supervision of the full scope of the facility’s recreation services. This includes providing an ongoing, inclusive program that uses purposeful activities in order to improve and maintain the quality of life for residents. The recreational programs are designed to meet the physical, cognitive, social, spiritual and emotional interests, and needs of every resident as per the current federal and state guidelines and regulations. The Recreation Director is responsible for hiring and supervising all Recreation staff/ volunteers and ensuring that they are trained appropriately to provide clinical, quality recreational services.
Recreation Director Required Skills:
- A minimum of two years within the last five-years working full-time in Recreation, or CTRS, or ADC, or OT, or OTA
- Knowledge of Recreation clinical documentation
- Knowledge of Resident Rights
- Knowledge of Person-Centered Care
- Knowledge of Gerontology
Recreation Director General Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensures that recreation services are in compliance with policies and guidelines as well as state and federal regulations
- Serves as a member of the interdisciplinary team and supports practices that focus on improving clinical, customer, staff and center excellence
- Plans a variety of engaging and meaningful recreational programs 7 days/ week (including evenings, weekend and holidays
- Plans activities that are appropriate to the needs of the residents (includes but are not limited to: small and large group programs, individual
- pursuits, sensory activities, clubs, special interests, spiritual and religious activities, one to one activity, community outings
- Evaluates the effectiveness of recreation services to:
- a) Enhance the resident’s quality of life
- b) Meet program goals
- c) Illicit residents’ feedback
- d) Identify special projects to enhance recreation services
- Prepares a monthly calendar of activities that are posted in prominent areas and provided to every resident
- Prepares a monthly staffing schedule that includes evening and weekend and holiday coverage
- Ensures that all documentation requirements are met. (MDS, assessments, care plans, discharge summary TR section)
- Develops a system to record resident participation/attendance
- Serves as Smoking Champion, if the facility participates in the smoking program. Maintains smoker list and appoints staff for supervision during smoke sessions
- Develops and implements a departmental Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) plan to continually monitor areas of recreation that involves health care delivery and resident quality of life
- Participates in morning meetings, department head meetings, care plan
- meetings, QAPI meetings, and any other meeting as directed by the Facility Administrator
- Orders and maintains appropriate supplies and equipment for the department
- Plans a monthly Resident Council meeting and serves as the staff liaison
- for the resident council president and another resident executive
- committee members. Takes minutes of meetings and ensures that all
- resident concerns are followed up and resolved.
- Uphold and safeguard residents’ rights; Advocates for and on behalf of
- residents
- Provides and ensures that translation services and communication tools are available in the facility for residents who speak a language other English
- Organizes and coordinates special community outings with resident
- interests in mind
- Arranges regular entertainment, parties, seasonal programs and special
- events
- Plans and coordinates staff events and community events at the request
- of the Administrator
- Ensures that the facility is appropriately decorated as per the holiday/season
- Supervises the volunteer program for the facility. Establishes and
- maintains an effective volunteer program through recruitment, screening,
- orienting, training, and recognizing volunteers
- Responsible for contributing to company-wide, bi-monthly newsletter
- and maintaining facility social media program (Facebook)
- Adheres to all facility and corporate policies
Experience:
- 1 year (Preferred)
Salary: $60,000 a year
