Vice President, Research & Development Harris Ambulatory Group Remote – US or Canada We are looking for a high performing Vice President of Research & Development to join us at the Harris Ambulatory Group. This person will be responsible for leading a team of engineers and business analysts who are responsible for the design, implementation, testing, and deployment of software solutions that are critical to the success of our customers in the Ambulatory healthcare space. The VP of R&D position requires both business savvy and strong technical skills. As the right candidate, you will possess demonstrated people and project management expertise, excellent verbal and written communication skills, financial forecasting experience, and a deep understanding of our technology stack and the software development life cycle. The Vice President of R&D is responsible for interacting with stakeholders both internal and external, including but not limited to your direct reports, senior management, integration partners, vendors, and our customers. As the leader of the R&D team, it is expected that you will work to not only help shape the vision and strategy of our business unit, you will also work with your team to ensure they are living our Harris values every day. You will be ultimately responsible for inspiring and helping them to deliver robust products in a timely manner to our customer base. What your impact will be: Translating business goals and product requirements into actionable development plans. Ensuring that development projects are delivered on time and within budget. Strategic planning, direction, and control of product development activities; as well as technical input into the overall business strategy. Scanning the competitive landscape for differentiators and gaps. Managing both onsite and offshore development teams. Establishing and analyzing KPIs/metrics to drive continuous operational excellence. Planning, communicating, and coaching for the professional growth and leadership development opportunities of the R&D team. Ownership of all financial aspects of the R&D team, such as forecasting, reconciliation, analysis, and actionable insights. Proactively nurturing and building channels of communication across business units to ensure collaboration and achievement of organizational goals. Providing technical direction and guidance for all product development needs throughout the organization. Continually evaluating the organizational structure, methodologies, and technologies to enhance productivity and implementing appropriate changes. Communicating industry trends and emerging new technologies that can provide the organization with an advantage. Managing strategic partnerships with vendors and suppliers. Conceive, develop, and drive the technology facets of the product roadmaps to position the team for long term success and minimize attrition risks from competitors. Ensuring R&D efforts comply with regulatory requirements and industry standards. Be an effective liaison between the customer base and the other internal departments (i.e. Sales, Professional Services, and Support Services). What we are looking for: Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or relevant experience 10 years of management experience at the product or people level Proficient in operational and financial aspects of a software company Experience with both Cloud-based and On-Premise software solutions 10 years of experience with the Microsoft technology stack (.NET/C#/MSSQL Server) Proven experience with the Agile/Scrum methodology to develop and deploy solutions Advanced analytical, diagnostic, and troubleshooting skills Familiar with APIs, security concerns, and troubleshooting Willingness to talk to stakeholders frequently to discover or clarify requirements Knowledge of general business financial principals Experience managing multiple teams of engineers and other business professionals Exceptional written and verbal communication; communicating clearly and comprehensively to senior executives and technical experts Organization and time-management skills, with a can-do attitude Excellent team player able to manage and prioritize work for self and staff What would make you stand out: Background in Ambulatory Healthcare or Ambulatory Healthcare software Proven experience with additional technology stacks (Java, C , Cobol, VB.Net and VB6) Scrum Master Certification Experience operating an R&D P&L Harris provides mission critical software solutions for the Public Sector, Healthcare, Utilities and Private Sector verticals throughout North America, Europe, Asia and Australia.
