Position Summary:
The Benefits Specialist assists with the day to day administration of all benefit plans. Acts as a resource to Carle and Health Alliance employees with benefit-related questions, and serving as an expert on all employee benefits. Responsible for responding to requests from both internal and external customers in a timely manner, interpreting and communicating benefit policies and procedures, and oversees all benefits related billing. Provides recommendations on changes to programs and processes to improve competitiveness and efficiency.
Qualifications:
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelors Related Field or two (2) years experience in Human Resources, preferably in Benefits.
CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
SHRM-CP or PHR preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Two (2) years of Human Resources in lieu of Bachelors Degree.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Excellent customer service skills are required. Strong verbal and written communications skills, professionalism, dependability, and time management skills. Ability to understand and explain technical information to a variety of audiences. Must be able to work well independently and in a team environment. Ability to prioritize tasks and follow through with employee and customer requests.
Essential Functions:
- Answers and responds to all incoming calls, voicemails, and email communications.
- Acts as a resource to the human resource staff on the technical aspects of the various benefit plans.
- Advises employees on benefits eligibility, plan provisions and options.
- Assists in the development and maintenance of the Benefits internet and intranet sites.
- Develops communications materials for staff.
- Interprets and communicates benefits policies and procedures to management, employees and external entities as required.
- Manages and administers the benefit programs in a positive and customer-focused manner.
- Manages the enrollment process for health, dental, life plans and flexible spending plan.
- Prepares and reconciles premium billing to various benefit vendors.
- Processes and maintains all benefit programs.
- Facilitates the annual open enrollment process.
- Conducts new employee benefit orientation for all employees, including Physicians and APPs.
