Position Summary:
The Nurse Manager of Emergency Department oversees the daily operations of the Emergency Department. They work with the Director of Nursing to achieve strategic goals and alignment with the overall organization. Works collaboratively with the CNO, physicians and administrative leaders to achieve efficient, effective and patient focused care within the scope of operations.
Qualifications:
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
BSN required. MSN, MHA, MBA preferred.
CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
Registered Nurse State of Illinois National Nursing Certification must be obtained within two (2) year of start date in position. BLS Required TNCC or Trauma Nurse Specialist within 1 year (TNS preferred) Advanced Cardiac Life Support Pediatric Advanced Life Support
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Three (3) years demonstrated progressive managerial experience within the emergency department
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Familiarity with current nursing practices. Ability to develop people. Experience in project management. Knowledge of fiscal management. Good interpersonal skills. Working knowledge of EMTALA and Emergency Nursing.
Essential Functions:
- Develops, analyzes, and manages capital and operating budget within agreed upon standards.
- Monitors employee performance and ensures timely communications for the purpose of goal setting, performance evaluations, wage increases and continued personnel actions.
- Provide leadership, vision, and management to assigned department(s). Sets departmental strategic direction and develops appropriate tactical plans to meet current and future strategic objectives.
- Ensures smooth operation of all departmental functions according to approved policies and in accordance with all state and federal law, standards of professional practice, and applicable accreditation standards.
- Responsible for building a dynamic team dedicated to attaining optimal outcomes.
- Develops, reviews, and revises department policies and procedures.
- Serves as Associate EMS Coordinator.
- Maintains working relationship with Regional EMS Coordinator.
- Works collaboratively with clinical leadership to standardize nursing practice to deliver high quality clinical care, incorporating research and teaching activities. Cultivates and maintains professional relationships with primary customers of the clinical area(s) including medical directors, physicians, physician groups and patients to enhance customer service and to positively impact core clinical measures.
- Understands the benefits of standardization and how to drive its implementation through the service line to improve quality, efficiency, patient, staff and physician satisfaction.
- Provides input into the development and revision of organizational structure for function or service.
- Approves personnel actions, such as hires, fires and disciplines.
- In collaboration with the executive senior leadership team and in cooperation with others in the hospital and the system, assists in developing and implementing current to intermediate goals and measures for areas of responsibility. As requested, assists in long-range goal development.

- All accreditation and certifications associated with the ED will be continued and requirements met.
