Position Summary:
The Manager of the Emergency Department oversees the daily operations of the Emergency Department. They work with the ED Director to achieve strategic goals and alignment with the overall organization. Works collaboratively with the Executive Director, physicians and administrative leaders to achieve efficient, effective and patient focused care within the scope of operations.
Qualifications:
Eduction: Bachelors in Nursing required
Certifications:
- Registered Professional Nurse (RN) License, Illinois Upon Hire
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 Days
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 1 Year
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 1 Year
- Certified Emergency Communications RN (ECRN) within 2 Years
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) within 1 Year or Trauma Nurse Specialist (TNS) Certification within 1 Year
Essential Functions:
- Develops, analyzes, and manages capital and operating budget within agreed upon standards.
- Monitors employee performance and ensures timely communications for the purpose of goal setting, performance evaluations, wage increases and continued personnel actions.
- Provide leadership, vision, and management to assigned department(s). Sets departmental strategic direction and develops appropriate tactical plans to meet current and future strategic objectives.
- Ensures smooth operation of all departmental functions according to approved policies and in accordance with all state and federal law, standards of professional practice, and applicable accreditation standards.
- Responsible for building a dynamic team dedicated to attaining optimal outcomes.
- Establishes and ensures that the overall objectives relating to the Carle Experience are achieved.
- Develops annual department goals and continuously monitors performance. Develops, reviews, and revises department policies and procedures.
- Works collaboratively with clinical leadership to standardize nursing practice to deliver high quality clinical care, incorporating research and teaching activities. Cultivates and maintains professional relationships with primary customers of the clinical area(s) including medical directors, physicians, physician groups and patients to enhance customer service and to positively impact core clinical measures.
- Develops, implements, monitors and evaluates systems/initiatives/programs to facilitate performance/quality improvements in keeping with strategic objectives and regulatory requirements. Understands the benefits of standardization and how to drive its implantation through the service line to improve quality, efficiency, patient, staff and physician satisfaction.
- Approves procedures/protocols and/or seeks other departmental approvals, as appropriate. Develops, monitors and revises functional processes. Provides input into the development and revision of organizational structure for function or service.
- Approves personnel actions, such as hires, fires and disciplines. Ensures the timely completion of performance appraisals. In collaboration with the executive senior leadership team and in cooperation with others in the hospital and the system, assists in developing and implementing current to intermediate goals and measures for areas of responsibility.
- Measures and assesses performance. As requested, assists in long-range goal development.
- Develops and monitors budget for areas.
- Coordinates a cohesive approach to clinical strategies and patient care across the organization including performance excellence and quality outcomes.
- Monitors activities for and ensures compliance with laws, government regulations, Joint Commission requirements and hospital policies.
