What are the responsibilities and job description for the RN - Digestive Health Navigator position at CARLE?
The RN Navigator will support procedural scheduling in the Digestive Health Institute and ensure process and quality goals are met.
- Resource to ensure that the pre-procedural requirements are completed.
- Provide support and direction to pre-procedural patients, schedulers, proceduralists, DHI staff.
- Maintain knowledge of all tests, medications, and possible contraindications associated with procedure and anesthesia/moderate sedation.
- Completion of prioritization of procedure cases based on indications and patient history (excludes emergent or same day adds).
- Works with proceduralists in obtaining additional test/orders as needed.
- Reviews and ensures up to date History and Physicals.
- Provides and is a resource for patient instructions and education, including bowel prep instructions for inpatients as needed.
- Prioritizes cases by review of patient record and assigns sedation type per anesthesia criteria.
- Works with proceduralist, PCP and referring provider to obtain medical clearance, additional tests, anticoagulation orders, and address special needs as indicated.
- Resource for schedulers regarding nursing assessment and complex patient situations.
- Liaison between scheduling office, procedure lab and DHI ambulatory and refers patients for consult versus open access procedure based on protocols and established processes.
- Maintains and updates written prep instructions through Martin Graphics, MyCarle, DHI website and Twistle for accuracy and relevancy.
