CLP's Teen Librarians create a continuum of service to inspire and facilitate lifelong learning by supporting the developmental needs of youth 11-19. The Teen Librarian acts as a mentor and connects teens and their families to resources and opportunities that reflect their interests, respond to their needs within diverse and changing communities, and empower them to be builders of their own future. The ideal candidate will understand teen brain development, have demonstrated a passion for and experience in community engagement, experience working collaboratively, and a history of serving teens and their families.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Working closely with the Library Services Manager and other youth-serving staff to develop and execute the vision of Teen Services at CLP's Woods Run;
- Developing relationships with all teens in the community in order to fulfill their informational and recreational needs, which includes job readiness, readers' advisory and more;
- Working to develop, implement, evaluate, and promote teen-driven, project-based programs around Connected Learning models that are designed to increase teens' literacy, technology, collaboration and community building skills, with a focus on digital media, STEM, and emerging technologies and programs of interest to teens; including programs in the library, at outreach locations, at local schools and other non-traditional settings to meet community needs;
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with individuals and agencies serving teens and their families;
- Welcoming customers and working to develop and build relationships with teens, caregivers and families within the Library and community;
- Helping to fulfill customers' informational and recreational needs by providing quality reference and readers advisory using print and electronic resources;
- Providing high quality customer service to all customers in accordance with CLP's Philosophy and Standards of Service;
- Participating in system-wide initiatives, programs, service teams and project management;
- Supporting location-wide partnerships;
- Sharing best practices and empowering all location staff to connect with and serve teens to ensure a continuum of service;
- Continuing to cultivate a timely and dynamic teen collection that is representative of the community's needs in consultation with the Coordinator of Children's & Teen Collections and the location's Library Services Manager;
- Managing the Teenspace, including space upkeep, equipment/supplies, behavior and creating engaging displays;assisting with these tasks at the branch level as needed;
- Providing meaningful experiences for volunteers in service to teens and for teens who are volunteers;
- Assisting with day-to-day operations of the location, which may include circulation, registration, and shelving;
- Engaging in continuing education opportunities in order to develop and maintain job skills.
Clearance Requirements:
- PA State Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, FBI Fingerprint Criminal Records Check and Mandated Reporter Training upon offer of employment.
Work Hours: 37.5 hours per week; days, evenings and weekends required.
Compensation: $22.95 per hour
