Job Description
Job Responsibilities
Trains, supervises, and evaluates personnel
Schedules staff and plans workflow
Oversees the management of a branch collection
Resolves non-routine patron interactions utilizing library policies
Addresses more difficult and complex reference and reader advisory services
Promotes and represents the library before outside groups
Develops informational finding tools as needed
Answers informational and reference questions from patrons utilizing all resources
Assist and advises patrons in the selection of books, periodicals, media and other materials
Plans and provides programs and outreach to patrons of all ages
Troubleshoots library computers and reports unresolved problems
Identifies materials to be considered for addition to the library collection
Remains current in resources, services and technology
Develops and implements branch goals, collection development and community relations
Serves as a liaison between the branch and library departments
Prepares monthly statistics and reports
Covers and assists with front desk and other library duites as necessary
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
A degree from accredited college or university. A Masters in Library Science from American Library Association accredited library school preferred.
Minimum of Three (3) years of library or related work experience and a minimum of one (1) year supervisory or lead worker role
An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities are acceptable
Working knowledge of computers and other standard office equipment
Ability to work independently
Ability to work effectively with a range of diverse people
Valid Virginia Driver's license
