What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mold Designer position at Carroll Industrial Molds Inc.?
Responsibilities:
Design and model all types and sizes of aluminum molds based on customer specifications using SolidWorks solid modelling software. Work with customers and company staff to determine molding parameters such as shrinkage factors, tolerances, pattern and casting layouts. Design to optimize mold efficiency during manufacture of the mold through to customer install/startup.
Job Duties:
- Use strong analytical and systems skills to create and improve design processes and procedures.
- Manage problems involving multiple variables in standardized situations.
- Apply customer supplied data and standard mold engineering specifications to develop mold configurations.
- Produce 3D mold models and drawings using SolidWorks solid modeling software tools.
- Select and utilize standard items such as bushings and tool components to incorporate into mold designs.
- Draw preliminary sketches and prepare layouts and detail drawings using both computer assisted design/drafting equipment (SolidWorks) and standard drafting tools and equipment.
- Complete thorough documentation of all mold design work.
- Work with company CNC programming staff to answer questions and support the CNC programming process.
- Modify existing mold designs for required engineering changes and to improve mold life or performance.
- Check the mold designs of other engineers (internal or external) for accuracy and adherence to design standards.
- Write routine reports and correspondence.
- Speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
- Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
Skills and Qualifications:
5 yrs. 3D CAD experience, solid conceptual skills, prior experience with process improvement, excellent verbal communication skills, understanding of machining strategies, strong functional and technical skills, skilled in use and operation of precision measurement tools, knowledge of CNC tooling, solid attention to detail.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
