What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Manager position at Carter Myers Automotive?
As the General Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for directing the operations, performance, customer satisfaction, retention, and profitability of each department. The GM must successfully plan, motivate and coordinate the dealership’s management through effective leadership, communication and solid business practices in alignment with CMA’s mission and core values.
Essential Duties:
- Setting a clear vision and goals for each department.
- Meets with department managers to develop and review performance goals and objectives.
- Developing and retaining talent in conjunction with the People Team.
- Ensures all necessary reported financial statements are complete, accurate, and submitted on time.
- Develops and maintains effective working relationships with lending institutions and manufacturer personnel.
- Communicates management policies and procedures to all employees and ensures that they are understood and followed.
- Coordinates with the business office to ensure that records are recorded and maintained accurately.
- Creating exceptional customer experiences to drive customer loyalty.
- Models the policies and procedures of the dealership with all associates and meets with associates to ensure that these behaviors are understood and followed.
- Driving the business through a high-level of involvement in the day-to-day operations to ensure profitability and efficiency.
Performance metrics:
- Targeted unit sales and profit in all business areas.
- Targeted expense management.
- Targeted associate retention.
- Targeted customer satisfaction index.
Management Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years experience - upper management in Retail Automotive.
- Strong record of achieving Customer Satisfaction scores at or above company standard.
- Proven history of recruiting, training, and managing a successful sales team.
- Keen understanding of both Variable and Fixed operations.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to speak before groups of customers or associates.
- Must have (or be able to obtain) a valid Virginia driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- High school diploma or equivalent required, college degree in business administration or related field preferred.
