POSITION SUMMARY
The Cook helps create a joyful and vibrant community by Preparing and serving delicious meals. Oversees food service operation and ensures that adequate food and supplies are on hand.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Prepares food items and serves food to residents within scheduled timeframe.
- Follows menu cycle, noting changes or substitutions made on proper form.
- Cleans and maintains a neat, safe working environment including the kitchen and food service areas.
- Complies with state sanitation codes.
- Maintains inventory control, places food order, verifies that items are received appropriately and restocks kitchen shelves.
- Directs food serve and dining service functions.
- Maintains the quality of food prepared and samples the food to ensure the quality of the food served to the residents.
- Ensures that resident food preferences are known and followed.
- Ensures staff, resident and guest meals are accounted for daily.
- Maintains meal service record as required.
- Reports problems, concerns, issues observed with food service and communicates them appropriately.
- Observes changes in resident status, needs, or preferences and communicates with appropriate team members.
- Records resident information as required.
- Avoids loss, breakage, and waste of supplies and equipment.
- Coordinates coverage of the kitchen and works with the Executive Director to develop a schedule that ensures adequate coverage.
- Adheres to procedures for fire, life, safety, disaster, security, worker safety and other emergency procedures.
- Adheres to and conveys philosophy of supporting dignity, privacy, independent, choice, individuality, and a home-like environment for residents.
- Knowledge of specialty diets and textures.
- Attends and participates in required meetings and trainings. Stays Current on all OneMint and other system assigned tasks and duties.
- Performs other tasks/duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIOINS/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
- Maintain current Food Handler’s card.
- Education or experience sufficient to meet position requirements or as required by State regulations.
- Meets all mandatory health requirements by State regulations.
- Requires attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
- Prior supervisory experience preferred.
- Maintains clean, neat, comfortable, safe environment for residents, staff, and visitors.
- Has compassion and special interest in working with the senior population.
- Ability to relate positively and communicate appropriately with residents, families, community members, volunteers and other employees.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays and overtime, to meet the requirements of the position.
- Maintains CPR and/or First Aid Certification as required by State regulation.
- Pass a Criminal Background and fingerprint check.
- General computer literacy and good knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word. Working knowledge of office machines (copier, fax, phone system, etc.).
- Demonstrates basic computer knowledge and ability with an aptitude to learn company applications.
- Ability to creatively problem-solve
- Ability to work independently (with minimum supervision)
