Castle Hills Mail and Package Carrier: Job Description
Overview:
The purpose of this position is to distribute US Postal Service mail and packages to Castle Hills residents in a quality and efficient manner. This position requires a valid driver’s license and clean driving record in order to perform the duties of the job. There are no supervisory responsibilities, but may assist in directing the work of a new employee as necessary. Staff assigned to this position must have great time management skills, work in a team environment as well as adapt to new processes and procedures which affect the work they do.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver mail and parcels to the residents of Castle Hills 5 days a week; up to 6 days a week when volume requires
- Retrieve outgoing mail from residents mail box and bring back to the Mail Center for Post Office pick up
- Distribute communication notices from Castle Hills Mail Center
- Maintain quality controls to assure accuracy and efficiency of work
- Greet and assist customers with questions about mail center operations
- Report any unusual circumstances concerning mail delivery, including the condition of mail and parcels, mailboxes, work related injuries and safety concerns
- Perform daily cleanup of company vehicle
- Complete and submit a weekly Vehicle Inspection Report (VIR)
- Performs all other duties as requested
- The accurate and speedy routing of mail is one of the most important duties
- This position requires working in all types of terrain from concrete to sand to mud, from hilly to flat grounds, rugged rock filled paths, or normal street sidewalks
- Performs duties in all types of weather including but not limited to heat, snow or ice, and rain
Job Skills and Requirements:
- Communication: Speak with others using clear and professional language. Listening, talking and understanding is very important to the job
- Dexterity: Work fast to sort volumes of mail and parcels. Having good hand/eye coordination is important for this position
- Stamina: Carriers spend much of their day on their feet, and will need strength to handle mail and large or heavy boxes
- Organizational Skills: Distribute mail in a way so that delivery is error free and fast
- Time Management: Must be punctual, eliminate wasted time, adhere to their daily schedule and meet performance metrics
- Ability to read and analyze information
- Follow both written and oral instructions
