The M & E Welder II (R) is designated as a “Rotational” position that usually works a designated rotating schedule, usually in patterns such as 14 days “on,” and 7 days “off” work. The person must travel to and lodge at the assigned work location for the duration of the 14-day work assignment. This position is responsible for welding metal components together with brazing and a variety of arc and gas welding equipment to fabricate or repair products such as machine parts, plant equipment, motors, and generators.
DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Weld metal parts together using both gas welding or brazing and any combination of arc welding processes, and perform related tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding.
- Repair broken or cracked parts, fill holes, and increase size of metal parts.
- Position and clamp together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding.
- Perform general assembly of engine to driven equipment.
- Apply a general understanding of mechanical concepts, pipe layout and threading.
- Differentiate between thread types and sizes, and utilize basic torque techniques.
- Look for ways to improve and promote quality, apply feedback to improve performance, and monitor own work to ensure quality.
- Observe safety and security procedures, report potentially unsafe conditions, and use equipment and materials properly.
- Demonstrate reliable attendance, punctuality, and time management.
- Follow instructions, respond to management direction, take responsibility for own actions, and keep commitments.
- Occasionally work long or unusual hours of work when necessary to reach goals.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three years related experience and/or training;
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos, which may be in written, verbal, or diagram form.
- Ability to read and understand measurements
- Ability to use boring and machining equipment to perform job.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Basic mathematical skills, to include the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to pass Worksteps evaluation.
