Description This position is for Network Optimization Engineering Specialist with network wireless expertise. This individual will be part of an engineering team developing and integrating wireless networking systems for various Caterpillar technology machines. The individual must have good systems knowledge of product development, software architecture and validation background with experience in end-to-end real time high-definition video transmission systems that fuse different communication features and functions together. Examples of communication features and function include but are not limited to Wireless WAN (Wide Area Network) end to end connection bonding, VPNs (Virtual Private Networks), tunneling, Wireless WAN load balancing, congestion control, forward error correction schemes, random linear network coding, and efficient real time streaming protocols (SRT, RIST, WebRTC, others, developed your own). This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned engineer with deep experience in cellular and Wi-Fi network technologies to ply their craft at enhancing video feeds for long-range remote-control machine and autonomous machine applications. The successful candidate will lead the development of enhancements to existing systems and champion the leveraging of new technologies for current and future Caterpillar products. The ability to interact and collaborate with multiple teams and mentor junior engineers is a must. A good blend of experience with network hardware and software protocols is required. Job Duties This role within the autonomy and remote control will help architect and develop an end-to-end real time high-definition video transmission system that fuse different communication features and functions together in teleoperation applications that are flexible to a variety of network solutions and technologies while being easy to implement and maintain. The individual will work within a small team and be involved in various aspects of the New Product Introduction (NPI)I development cycle: design, development, product quality and validation. The position will require a strong quality focus through design reviews and significant interaction with downstream integration points. Significant data analysis and systems analysis skills are needed to help troubleshoot complex issues from test or customer sites, and to examine information from test sites to improve overall systems performance. Additional key responsibilities include development of acceptance criteria, support the new product introduction process, systems design, network and video control theory, and communication skills. Technical project strategy, development, and delivery of a real time high-definition video transmission system is the main focus of this role – requiring working closely with other engineering teams, engineering support groups, suppliers as well as potential interaction with customers. The incumbent will need to work well with other teams and help remove roadblocks for issues that cross multiple organizations. The incumbent is also expected to mentor and train other engineers to help grow the overall team skill set. Basic Qualifications The individual must have a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in an accredited Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent technical field and 10 years of relevant engineering work experience developing wireless network resilient communications and technologies. Good teamwork, communication, analysis, and troubleshooting skills are required. Top Candidates will also have Experience in developing and integrating remote control software platform and application features for mobile machinery/vehicles Issue resolution thru triage and troubleshooting Coordinate, plan and manage the technical projects so they adhere to a common strategy, architecture, ensure leverage, and meet or exceed customer expectations. Communicate results to customers, suppliers, team members, and other business units Perform product maintenance including support of existing software Prioritization efforts will require a good knowledge of the trade-offs between time, resources and quality.
