The Associate Scientist II – Upstream Development will work independently as well as collaboratively within a high-functioning project team. The individual should bring technical knowledge, initiative, strong scientific integrity, and an enthusiasm for learning in order to make significant contributions within the Process Development and Process Characterization Group. 

This position will report to the Associate Director, Principal Scientist at the BioPark site.

The Role/Job Duties:

  • Passages mammalian cell lines for maintenance and scale up (suspension and adherent).
  • Understands and executes protocols related to media and buffer preparation, cell banking, cell passaging, bioreactor operations, filtration, and other activities as needed.
  • Aids in execution of experiments to develop and improve scalable processes utilizing different expression systems.
  • Completes batch records and experimental records according to Good Documentation Practices.
  • Enters and analyzes data, supports project leads in generation of reports and presentations.
  • Manages samples and inventory related to each experiment.
  • Assists with lab maintenance, stocking, cleaning, and troubleshoots equipment.
  • Participates in decision-making processes within the project team by actively engaging in scientific and technical discussions.
  • Maintains training and operates within established systems, helps improve systems.

The Candidate

Experience & Education:

  • 3-5 years (with BS) or 1-3 years (with MS) of cell cultivation or fermentation process development.
  • Strong understanding of and ability to apply of aseptic techniques.
  • Production of material at different scales using adherent and/ or suspension platforms from flasks to stirred-tanks and packed bed bioreactors (PALL iCELLis technology experience a plus).
  • Preparation of various buffers and reagents, medium formulation.
  • Instrument care, maintenance, troubleshooting and data interpretation.
  • Document writing, participating in data analysis and preparation of reports and presentations.
  • Experience with statistical software (JUMP) or analytical techniques (ELISA, ddPCR) a bonus.
  • An ability to juggle multiple, sometimes competing, priorities; Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Resourcefulness and problem-solving abilities to prevent operational delays and meet objectives.
  • The ability to work in team-oriented environment and participate on multidisciplinary project teams.
  • The ability to accommodate occasional weekend and evening work.
