What are the responsibilities and job description for the Snowmaking Supervisor (Year-Round) position at Cataloochee Ski Area?
OVERVIEW:
The Snowmaking Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the shift crew to assure the safe and efficient operation of snowmaking equipment. Sets the standards for safety and quality of work. The snowmaking department works on chairlifts, pumps, air compressors, snowmaking machinery, etc. The off-season schedule is four (4), 10-hour (day) shifts and runs from late March through October. The in-season schedule is six (6), 8 to 10-hour shifts and runs from late October through March (with mandatory overtime).
*Qualified candidates need to be open-minded concerning schedules for day or night shifts during the winter months
ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the operation of snowmaking equipment for manufacturing high-quality snow
- Oversee 3-5 snowmakers during a shift to ensure proper safety and execution of required tasks
- Produce quality snow using air, water, and fan equipment
- Assist Mountain Operations Manager in performing regular appraisals of the crew's performance
- Maintain shift efficiency
- Monitor and control the computerized process control system
- Manually and remotely control and monitor pumping and compressed air systems
- Assisting Mountain Operations Manager with the snowmaking summer capital budget and plan
- Works with vendors on up-to-date equipment for the snowmaking department
- Communicate with the Mountain Operations Manager on a regular basis to keep updated on work procedures
- Meet service-level objectives and department goals as set forth by the immediate supervisor
- Constant relocation of guns and hoses to various areas around the mountain
- Adjusting, turning, or moving snow guns to maintain snowmaking efficiency
- Adjusting the water and or airflow to snow guns
- Conduct regular maintenance checks on equipment
- Work safely in close proximity to heavy equipment, high voltage, and high-water pressures
- Shovel snow, remove snow around snowmaking equipment .and other areas around the ski area as needed
- Maintain all safety barriers, padding, and guards around snowmaking equipment
- Drive snowmobiles, trucks, and UTVs as necessary
- Maintain a clean and well-organized work area
- Perform other duties as assigned while waiting for snowmaking weather
