The On-board Services and Information Systems division is seeking a leader to fill the position of Electronics Engineering Manager for the Information Systems Verification and Validation section. This position provides people and technical leadership for a team of about 13 technical leads and engineers plus further global resources, and nearly $3M budget. This team assures Caterpillar's connected asset clients and customers have a high quality, trusted and value-added experience when using the data generated by Caterpillar products.
The team has the responsibility for design, development and execution of automated and manual testing for Caterpillar's connected product information systems. This end-to-end testing effort spans across the embedded software and system, GPS signals, radio communications, message verification and end user experience. They are responsible for test case development in concert with new content designers as well as regression testing on existing capabilities across several platforms. It ensures full traceability and transparency for test efforts and results so defects can be identified and address early in development. The team develops and maintains automated testing capabilities for maximum coverage on features, functions and real-life operating scenarios.
This organization continues to rapidly expand its technical capabilities to aggressive automate and integrate testing with upstream and downstream partners and their systems, for greater efficiency and accuracy of the process. These advances are vital due to the high demand for information products and solutions that enhance customer productivity, efficiency, sustainability efforts and profitability. It leverages and integrates a mix of in-house, commercial and open-source tools in the process.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software and system development or testing, project and team leadership, strong written and verbal communication skills, be well organized and can interact with clients, suppliers, commercial and technical people and senior leadership. The candidate must be comfortable with recommending and making decisions that impact people, performance, quality, and how the company is perceived by customers. Additionally, the candidate will be a strategic thinker with the ability to solve problems, will be able to engage, coach and develop people, and maintains a high level of accountability and focus on clients.
Job Duties
This position is responsible to lead a highly technical team of engineers in the design, development and execution of automated and manual testing systems and solutions for embedded information modules and back-office processing and visualization for Caterpillar Connectivity Systems. This role is accountable to recruit, organize, train, mentor, develop and retain qualified team members to meet deliverable expectations for testing capabilities ensuring features, functionality, quality, cost and time requirements are met. Daily responsibilities can range from budget planning for a global team; managing expenses for people, projects, material and travel; prioritizing work and coordinating resources to achieve project objectives; reporting and presenting on initiatives, projects, progress and issue status; interacting with clients, suppliers, peers and leaders on a variety of items; strategic planning for new equipment, processes or capabilities; individual and team meetings on performance and career and other functions. This role works close with a peer group of managers to synchronize efforts and maximize efficiency and performance.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, preferably BSEE, BSCE, BSCS, BS Systems Engineering
10-15 years of progressive experience in design, development or validation testing of embedded or IoT products; including public wireless networks and gateways, integrated systems, Hardware in the Loop and Software in the Loop testing, automated testing, and quality processes
Experience in project management and leading project teams from initial requirements discussions through delivery and subsequent support, including plans and schedules, budgeting, quality and client engagement

Previous and progressively growing team leadership experience and organization skills are necessary.
Excellent interpersonal, and communication skills, ability to deal with sensitive issues, mentor and coach and/or persuade others on new technologies, or potential solutions.
