JOB SUMMARY: The Director of the Child Development Center is responsible for promoting a healthy, positive, safe, stimulating and structured environment for all children, families and staff. The Director is expected to use child-development training skills and previous experience to design and implement strategies that allow him/her to run a well-organized childhood facility that works in the best interest of children, parents, and staff. The Director will ensure the coordination of children’s services, monitor instructional leadership, provide oversight of the budget, respond to and manage the various licensing requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for all aspects of planning and implementing the Child Development Center (CDC) and the Pre-K Program for the Department of Developmental Disabilities at Catholic Charities to include working in the classrooms.
- Leads, supervises and evaluates staff. Manages the progress of individual professional development plans and personal outcome goals.
- Coordinates services for children with suspected or diagnosed disabilities and their families in the least restrictive environment and ensures that these services are individually based.
- Works closely with staff in the development, implementation and accuracy of Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP)/Individual Educational Plan (IEP) goals and objectives. Coordinates and facilitates meetings when necessary.
- Observes staff and provides suggestions and recommendations to ensure the inclusion of children in regular activities as much as possible.
- Works with staff to plan for the seamless transition of all children at the Center.
- Participates in the intake process for the Center.
- Approves classroom management to include classroom design, implementation of instructional plans and the utilization of materials appropriate for each child.
- Monitors records for compliance with DC licensing, Office of the State Superintendent for Education Regulations, and all other relevant performance Standards.
- Adheres to Common Core Aligned Early Learning Standards, DC Licensing, and Federal/Local laws and regulations.
- Responsible for building new partnerships and strengthening existing partnerships related to program requirements, in order to augment funding requirements and create Partnership Agreements that are in the best interest of growth of the programs.
- Prepares the annual budget for the programs (CDC and Pre-K) and assures all reports to include billing are completed in a timely and efficient manner.
- Other job-related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
- Master’s degree in early childhood education, Special Education, or related field.
- One (1) year of Supervisory/Management experience.
- Five (3) years of work experience with Infants and Toddlers.
- Experience forging new partnerships with external stakeholders in the Early Childhood & Early Intervention community.
SKILLS and COMPETENCIES:
- Knowledge of management principles and practices. Knowledge of budgeting and fiscal management principles.
- Knowledge of contracts and grants preparation and management. Program planning and implementation skills.
