JOB DESCRIPTION
The CDC Foundation seeks candidates for a Public Health Analyst position to support and coordinate global surveillance for acute gastroenteritis and rotavirus vaccine impact, effectiveness, and safety evaluations in Africa and Asia. The incumbent would support a team of epidemiologists, liaise with international partners and funding organizations, and coordinate activities in Africa and Asia. Responsibilities may include developing routine site progress reports with international partners, managing partner communications and meeting planning, and overseeing proposal submissions for CDC IRB review. It may also involve limited international travel.
This full-time position will be hired by the CDC Foundation and assigned to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Clifton campus in Atlanta, Georgia. The position will be located at the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD) within the Viral Gastroenteritis Epidemiology Team in the Viral Gastroenteritis Branch (VGB) of the Division of Viral Diseases. Main Responsibilities:
1. Serves as a member of a multi-disciplinary staff of researchers with responsibility for supporting and performing research for the improvement of healthcare and disease prevention.
2. Establishes and maintains an integrated system of information gathering and reporting devices and analyzes the data and assesses the program needs in terms of strategies, services, and resources.
3. Plans, schedules, and coordinates activities and explains program policies, procedures, activities, services, and benefits to public health personnel and other parties.
4. Collects and analyzes data and findings to address program needs.
5. Interprets legislative, regulatory, and/or policy guidance for use in managing public health programs.
6. Develops and/or recommends program intervention, prevention, and/or control strategies for meeting program objectives.
7. Prepares reports for use in evaluating program operations and the other work incidental to the development of the information gathering system.
8. Performs duties related to the development, extension, and improvement of health care systems and/or communications.
9. Performs other duties as assigned related to this position.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in public health, management, or a related field, with 2-5 years of experience with managing public health programs and interventions. Master’s degree in epidemiology, public health, or related field preferred.
- Strong understanding of the elements of public health practice, including the use of epidemiologic data, disease surveillance and control, and program design, implementation, and evaluation.
- Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative techniques for measuring the effectiveness, efficiency, and productivity of assigned programs.
- Excellent research and analytical skills with the ability to identify problems, determine the accuracy/relevance of information, evaluate alternatives and make recommendations.
- Skill in oral and written communications, gathering and conveying information, making oral presentations, and preparing reports, correspondence, and other written materials.
- Excellent organization and problem-solving skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
- Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office Suite tools.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to quickly grasp scientific and technical information.
- Ability to handle confidential information in a discreet and professional manner.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills and ability to collaborate with others on projects and investigations.
- Flexibility and sensitivity in working with international partners.
- Proficiency in written and spoken French is highly desirable.
