What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bridge Inspector 3 position at CDM Smith?
As a member of this team you will contribute to CDM Smith's mission by:
- Being part of a team inspecting roughly 20 to 30 bridges a month throughout North Carolina.
- Under direct supervision, performs bridge inspection-related calculations of basic complexity. Documents deficiencies, taking general structure photos and verifying the geometrics. Performs other duties as required.
- Drafts documents, sketches, and related items to communicate bridge structural deficiencies and other related bridge inspection issues. Calculates quantities and repair cost estimates for repair identified deficiencies.
- Reviews inspection-related documentation including drawings, specifications, plans, etc. as necessary to prepare for the inspection.
- Will work in close proximity to traffic, at great heights, in all weather conditions, traverse steep and uneven terrain and may be exposed to wildlife and an array of flora.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate’s degree.
- Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
- 0 years experience.
- Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
Skills and Abilities
Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in English. Basic knowledge of arithmetic. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.). Ability to adapt to new technologies and quickly learn new computer, smartphone or related applications and programs. basic knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in bridge construction. Ability to read, understand, interpret and explain construction plans and drawings, contract provisions, and specifications. Basic knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience working outdoors such as doing bridge inspection, survey, CI, or landscaping work.
- Interest in pursuing a career in bridge inspection work.
