Job Summary
- Responsible for the basic instruction of safety, operation, defensive driving, and other duties related to the Ready Mix Transportation for newly hired and existing drivers
Job Responsibilities
- Maintain current State Class A or B license with Tank Endorsements (if required)
- Conduct safe driving and safe working methods and procedures training programs as specifically required by CEMEX Driving Essentials.
- Provide daily assessment of assigned trainees to ensure proper and consistent performance of duties
- Ride with drivers and provide coaching on desirable safety behaviors.
- Evaluate trainees daily, make formal evaluations on a regular schedule by utilizing appropriate academic and skills tests
- Maintain accurate trainee attendance records
- Maintain accurate trainee progress records and evaluation forms
- Discuss evaluation with Core Driver Trainers and affected line managers
- Ensure effective driver indoctrination. Coordinate and plan for daily instruction with Core Driver Trainers and Dispatch, insuring proper utilization of equipment and prospective trainees
- Present instruction in a professional, timely and accurate manner consistent with CEMEX Truck Driver Training policies and programs.
- Be prepared to instruct and monitor trainee actions in all phases of training and insure trainees’ compliance with program policy
- Serve as a “Role Model” to all drivers as to dress code, conduct and positive attitude
- Maintain zero disciplinary actions while a Driver Trainer
Qualifications
- Must possess a Class A or B CDL with Tank Endorsements (if required) for the hiring State
- Smith System Certified
- Three years Ready Mix, or 5 years tractor-trailer over-the-road driving experience
- Knowledge of current state and federal regulations relating to the trucking industry
- Positive instructional experience preferred

- Proficient in skills required to safely operate ready mix trucks, tractor-trailer (Aggregate Transport) and other diesel-powered Class A & B commercial vehicles
- Ability to prioritize workload and maintain organized records
- Mature, discreet, and responsible
- Work well under pressure and take initiative
- Ability to meet and confer with individuals and groups concerning a variety of subjects including confidential matters.
- Ability to read and comprehend varied and extensive written documents, regulations and DOT and Safety reference material.
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations DOT related to Ready Mix, Aggregates and Construction Materials Transportation.
- Knowledge of effective teaching concepts
- Have a consistent history of demonstrated superior truck cleanliness
- Bilingual, English and Spanish (Preferred
Working Conditions
- Continuous exposure to extreme heat, extreme cold, extreme noise, and working outdoors.
- Must wear protective equipment while at the location
Physical Requirements
- Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant degree
- Heavy Work-Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds or force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, in order to communicate to employees/visitors as well as function safely around heavy rolling equipment
- Must be able to perform all job functions which include, but may not be limited to, pushing, turning, and/or pulling of controls
- Must pass DOT physical to include back x-ray, hearing test and drug/alcohol screen
