Job Description of Cook:
The Cook works under direct supervision and is responsible for overseeing food preparation, service, and storage and maintaining cleanliness of the kitchen work area. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Duties and Responsibilities of Cook:
- Prepares food items for cooking or serving by cleaning, cutting or peeling vegetables and fruits, making sandwiches, opening canned foods, brewing coffee and tea, and pouring beverages.
- Prepares serving areas by replenishing table items and condiments, arranging and restocking salad, dessert, and/or buffet items, setting up serving lines with hot/cold foods, and filling beverage dispensers.
- Serves food from serving line or prepares and/or transports food trays. Serves food for special events or meetings.
- Cleans kitchen, storage, and dining areas by sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping floors. Washes appliances, tables, chairs, and windows, washes utensils or operates dishwasher, and empties garbage.
- Stores food, supplies, and utensils in storage areas.
- Loads, delivers, and retrieves food carts to and from on-site units. Unloads and cleans carts after meals.
- Performs other duties required or assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements of Cook:
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Ability to pass our required background tests and drug screen.
- The ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions
- Must have six months of experience in institutional cooking or a related field.
- Knowledge of the preparation, service, and storage of foodstuffs.
- Knowledge of sanitation and safety requirements of a food service facility.
- Ability to prepare and serve food.
- Ability to clean utensils and equipment used in food preparation.
- Ability to use knives, choppers, peelers, and other sharp food production equipment.
