What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lecturer of Chemistry position at Central College?
One-year (with the possibility of renewal) lecturer appointment beginning August 2022 with responsibility for delivering courses in analytical chemistry or biochemistry.
QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Candidates will have earned a master's degree or doctorate with an emphasis in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, or related field. This teaching-focused position will support delivery of the chemistry programs' ACS-certified curriculum, teaching courses related to analytical chemistry, biochemistry or at the introductory level. Preference will be given to candidates with a background with analytical chemistry or who possess experience relevant to undergraduate students looking towards careers in industry.
The Natural Science Department contains majors in Chemistry, Biochemistry and Biology as well as significant interactions with numerous interdisciplinary programs. The five-member chemistry program offers majors in chemistry and biochemistry which includes an American Chemical Society (ACS)-certified track in each. The department is housed in the Vermeer Science Center (VSC), renovated as the first LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Design) certified building in the state of Iowa and the first science building to be recognized as green by the U.S Green Building Council. This 71,000 square foot facility is shared with programs in biology, physics, engineering, mathematics/ and computer science and includes of classroom space with modern technology, laboratory space, and dedicated areas to facilitate collaborative undergraduate research. The department has an array of modern instrumentation on site including a newly installed JEOL 400 MHz NMR, Perkin Elmer IR Spectrometer, Cary (Agilent) Fluorimeter, Agilent HPLC, GC/MS, Flame AA, two UV/Vis systems, TWO GC systems, and a Toledo-Mettler TGI/DSC.
