JOB DESCRIPTION

Classification: Non-Exempt

Department: Workforce/IT
Reports to: Director of Workforce
Summary/Objective
The Information Technology Support Technician, Workforce is responsible for the following work: technical support, computer equipment repair, networking, development and maintenance, email administration, server maintenance, server backup and restoration, and equipment inventory maintenance. This position will participate with creative aspects, implementation, and hardware management for the IT aspects of the Workforce division.
Essential Functions

  • Supports the technical development, implementation, and maintenance of all Workforce technological needs.
  • When available, they will contribute to the technical aspects of back- and front-end functionality for the Workforce Division and the District.
  • Monitor tools’ usage, collect and analyze feedback on current and future tools, and provide updated recommendations for current or future tools.
  • Manage technological resources related to Workforce data and connectivity.
  • Procurement responsibilities for technology as explicitly needed for the Workforce Division and possibly for the District if needed.
  • Contributing and conducting Workforce IT training and technical assistance efforts.
  • Attending relevant meetings.
  • Fostering working relationships with Workforce staff members and career coaches, facilitating discussions, and supporting collaboration.
  • Staying informed of issues, tools, and solutions throughout the Workforce.
  • Support the District’s IT Department as projects and assignments allow.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this position, the employee may travel by automobile and be exposed to changing weather conditions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. The employee is also regularly required to stand, walk, or sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently lifts and moves up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Required Education and Experience

  • Coursework and experience in Information Technology as a minimum: Technical degree desirable.
  • Significant course work, research, and experience in one or more of the following: computer technology, data processing, networking, technical hardware, and connectivity.
  • 3 years of related work experience (may substitute Education in relevant areas.
  • Demonstrated advanced understanding of information technology.
  • Knowledge and experience with IT project design, development, and implementation.
Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job will be considered.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
  • Ability to exercise tact and good judgment in dealing with others and making sound decisions.
  • Ability to express ideas and opinions clearly and concisely.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Mississippi driver's license.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical information from map and survey drawings. The ability to define problems, collect data, reconcile facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Knowledge and ability using the Microsoft Office software suite, general office machines, plotters, printers, etc.
  • The ability to use proper research methods in gathering data, understand and interpret technical information, and handle sensitive inquiries from officials and the public.
