JOB SUMMARY
The Accountant, under the direction of the Controller, is responsible for the General Ledger Account analysis and reconciliations, bank account reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance in accordance with Central State University’s policies and procedures. Also is responsible for performing General Ledger Account analysis, fund accounting, daily cash reporting, account maintenance ensuring that the institution’s general accounting practices satisfy the highest ethical requirements, as must his/her own behavior.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Accountant, under the direction of the Controller, is responsible for the General Ledger Account analysis and reconciliations, bank account reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance in accordance with Central State University’s policies and procedures. Also is responsible for performing General Ledger Account analysis, fund accounting, daily cash reporting, account maintenance ensuring that the institution’s general accounting practices satisfy the highest ethical requirements, as must his/her own behavior.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Analyze, reconcile, and report on general ledger balance sheet activity for all funds.
- Prepare journal entries as needed to record transactions;
- Prepare audit schedules as assigned.
- Reconcile bank accounts to general ledger balances on a monthly basis;
- Perform general ledger maintenance activities in the “Banner” ERP system;
- Enter and track ACH transactions with web-based bank software;
- Apply fund accounting principles, generally accepted accounting principles and GASB accounting principles to all activities.
- Assist Controller with other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated organizational skills;
- Computer literate, with demonstrated spreadsheet skills;
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration preferred;
- Three to five years experience in related field;
- Experience with higher education is preferred.
- Experience with Banner ERP system
- Experience in higher education, and or fund accounting with a working knowledge of Banner financial system
