General Information about position and Chalk Couture:   Chalk Couture is a leading crafted home décor brand which is based in Salt Lake City, Utah and operates via a powerful hybrid direct sales and direct-to-consumer model. We are embarking on our next phase of growth with expanding dramatically upon our beloved craft products at the center of our strategy. We are seeking an experienced and dynamic merchant to lead merchandising, planning, product development, and sourcing. The Head of Merchandising will report directly to the CEO and work closely with executives across marketing, sales and operations.  The Head of Merchandising will be responsible for building out a product roadmap across all crafted home décor and other categories and managing the line plan/product assortment, pricing, launch and delivery calendar, inventory buys, product lifecycle, pricing, sourcing strategies, and gross margin plan. This role requires a keen understanding of trends within crafting and home décor, consumer behavior, and effective merchandising techniques. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, creativity, and a passion for driving business results. Reporting to this role will be the design, merchandising, sourcing and inventory functions. 


Duties and Responsibilities:   

PRODUCT STRATEGY & BUSINESS PROCESS

  • Leading the transformation of the merchandising/ design/ planning function, incorporating best practices in process, systems, and staff development with a multi-channel lens. Managing the Merchandising/ Planning Calendar that is aligned with finance, buying and sale cycles.
  • Oversee the development of long range/ annual/ seasonal merchandise plans that roll up to support the overall financial profit objectives.
  • Develop and execute merchandising strategy to optimize product assortment to deliver annual gross profit plan and grow customer lifetime value. Create seasonal line plans and ensure that the collection delivers against the business needs.
  • Manage design team to ensure assortment meets sales and brand goals.
  • Build and manage new product and new category pipeline to introduce seasonal newness into line plan, expand key item programs and launch new crafted home décor categories. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align merchandising strategies with overall business objectives.
  • Perform competitive research and post season/year hindsight analysis so that opportunities for growth are identified and product offering is enhanced Analyze sales data, market trends and customer feedback to identify opportunities for product enhancements, line extensions and new product introductions.

PRICING & PROMOTIONS

  • Implement pricing strategies and promotions to drive sales and meet revenue targets.
  • Responsible for global markdown/liquidation strategy and manage to margin targets.
  • Collaboration with Marketing on seasonal priorities and promotional tactics

SOURCING & INVENTORY

  • Direct inventory management including the use of replenishment, promotion and markdown strategies to maintain optimal stock levels and minimize excess inventory.
  • Manage sourcing strategy to ensure best-in-class quality and ensure timely delivery of merchandise.


Qualifications (including education and years of experience): 

  • Bachelor's degree required; in business, marketing or related field preferred.
  • 7 years of experience in a management position within merchandising; strong preference for crafting and/or home décor experience.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret sales data and market research.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Creative thinker with a keen eye for detail and a passion for product.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in an entrepreneurial environment and/or launching new products.   
  • Flexible and adaptable with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Knowledge of industry trends, consumer behavior and competitive landscape.
  • Attention to detail and ability to deliver on quick-to-market timelines.
  • Extensive global sourcing network.
  • Willingness to travel and work flexible hours as needed.
