POSITION SUMMARY

The Occupational Therapist (OT) administers occupational therapy by planning and implementing programs designed to restore or develop patient’s self-care, play, or leisure time task performance skills.

REPORTS TO: Director of Rehabilitation, Clinical Manager

SUPERVISES: Occupational Therapy Assistants

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Graduated after successful completion of an occupational therapist education program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association, Inc. (AOTA), or successor organization of ACOTE.

Credentials: Licensed or otherwise regulated, if applicable, as an occupational therapist by the State in which practicing, unless licensure does not apply; Is eligible or take or has successfully completed the entry-level certification examination for occupational therapists developed and administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy, Inc. (NBCOT). Eff. 10.01.2010

Current Basic Life Support license (BLS).

Experience: 1 years’ experience is desired.

Core Competencies: Comprehensive knowledge of the rehabilitative services in self-care and performance tasks. Demonstrates ability to plan, organize and make effective decisions. Possesses ability to think critically and problem solve. Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrates positive communication skills in interacting with all members of the team.

Other: Valid driver's license and auto insurance.

FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provides treatment as ordered by the attending physician or podiatrist.

2. Assists the physician in evaluating the level of function.

3. Assists in developing and updating the plan of care.

4. Directs and supervises personnel as required.

5. Observes, records, and reports information on the patient’s condition to the attending physician and in the patient’s medical record.

6. Advises, consults and instructs the family and other agency personnel in patient’s therapy program.

7. Teaches and supervises other health personnel when appropriate.

8. Evaluates home environment and makes appropriate recommendations.

9. Participates in in-service programs, team conferences and utilization review as needed.

10. Submits supplemental orders at start of care and whenever the plan of care (modality or frequency) changes.

11. Keeping on-going communication with the agency from start of care and continuing when patient’s condition changes, or when the plan of care changes.

12. Delivers all the required documentation to the offices of the Agency on the designated submission days of the week.

13. All other duties deemed necessary and appropriate.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Evidence of good physical and mental health.

2. Able to lift 40 lbs. from floor to waist and waist to shoulder.

3. Able to lift 25 lbs. from shoulder to overhead.

4. Able to perform patient transfers, utilizing appropriate techniques including assistance.

5. Average vision/hearing

6. Frequent bending and reaching

7. Repetitive standing, walking and use of hands.

8. Able to drive a car a minimum of 4 hours.
